1098 Diesel Slide...

  1. Remember that lovely bike that I spent a fortune recommissioning... well, I only went and fell off the bloody thing on my maiden voyage!

Thousands spent, less than a mile covered, and then I encounter a diesel spill...

I've done some mad things on bikes over the last 20 years and never come off, but a gentle cruise on my dream bike for the first time... and I hit the deck! You couldn't make it up!

It was fairly low-speed low-side spill. There was nothing I could have done to keep it upright. Over in a heartbeat!

The bike had full R&G crash protection, so the damage was minimal. I never saw the point in crash bungs, etc. before, but now would really recommend to all. Great bits of kit! The bike only slid a few metres, but I still can't believe how relatively unscathed it was (unlike me!).

Unfortunately I landed heavily and suffered a fractured shoulder blade, wrist and toes. Worst injury though is the soft-tissue damage in my right shoulder... proper knackered! My riding days are effectively over.

Gutted doesn't come close to covering it!

Bike is now repaired (pics below) and is advertised on eBay.

  8. Thanks. Ooh, collarbones! Now they are sore when they go (did mine playing rugby). Thankfully mine remained intact this time, but the AC joint has taken a hammering and there's a fair bit of disfigurement in the area. Like Quasi Modo on one side! :(

  13. Aww. That's terrible bad luck! I had a roundabout / diesel spill a couple of weeks ago: trashed a new helmet but escaped with heavily bruised hip and some scuffs on the bike which I can repair relatively easily.

    Wishing you a full recovery...

  15. Chuff me sad story, I hope you are feeling better real soon physically and mentally, and that bike looks a corker, don't think I would sell that, it would have to go in the living room mate. Take care buddy. :Jawdrop:
