  13. Parents had a place near Auch in Gascony - pleasant enough (empty - the Gers is the least populated département in France). Armagnac rather than cognac.
You can pretty much stick a pin blindfold into a map of France and you would end up in a nice place.
I quite like the Ardèche - amazing roads and a river for rafting.
Also a big fan of northern Burgundy - Avalon, around there. Great wine and steaks!

Beware of being too close to the Pyrenees. Not that hot once the summer is over. My parents never spent winter in their French home - cold and miserable and wet. For real heat, the Côte d'Azur is a lot warmer, but you need to be in the arrière pays or there are far too many people and it's much too expensive. But it can be a "Christmas dinner on the patio" sort of place. In laws used to live on the Côte d'Azur - I went there often.

  18. Went to the shark enclosure today.

There's a little-known but foolproof defence against sharks.

Sharks will only attack you if you're wet.

  19. Lucerne is a great town. Quite twinky, very scenic with steamships on the lake. The Swiss transport museum is there - not that I've visited it.

    • Thanks Thanks x 1
