Hello all, 1995 750SS is almost back together now, although I seem to be lacking sparks... can someone sanity check the following for me? Battery connected - battery earth lead connected to frame at airbox mounting point Kill switch tested - OK Pickup coils resistance - one reading 95 ohms and one 4k ohms (bike was running before disassembly but I'm guessing that one of the pickup coils is knackered?) HT coils resistance - TBC HT leads resistance - TBC Earth lead discovered between engine and frame that looks like it hasn't been connected for a long while - I didn't disconnect this Other than testing the HT coils and leads tomorrow (although neither plug is sparking) are there any "they all do that sir" things I should be looking out for please? Engine spins over nicely and fuel pump is pumping and carbs are receiving fuel, definitely an ignition issue. Haynes is decidedly light on actual information, and the factory manual isn't helping much either. Next step will be full on multimeter time, I was hoping I'd just left something off while reconnecting but it doesn't look like it. All wisdom gratefully received, and very happy to get the coffee in at the Super Saus' if I can get this old crate living by then
By applying 12volts across the coil, briefly then removing it, you should be able to make a spark. Don't leave the 12v connected. It is the generation and collapse of the field that makes the spark.
So one pick-up is 95 Ohms? (Which should be OK....OEM is 100) and the other is 4000 Ohms??? Well......Even the Electrex World replacement pick-up is only 460 Ohms....... ........so summat wrong there, mate.
Yeah, fear so... was the first thing I checked and got wonky readings from there. Shall work through the rest of the tests before starting to order bits. Curious about the relays comment, would that be fuel pump relay being referenced Ducbird?

My engine spins over fine so I think different symptoms but I'll check in any case. A little preventative spray maintenance can't hurt
They are very demanding bikes but once you have sorted her she will love you forever They are well worth it in my book
Don't you hate it when people orphan threads? It was the gap on the pickup coil. Once set back to 0.7mm it runs like a top!
