899 What Tank Range Are You Getting?

  1. So I've just racing out of petrol. Luckily I was outside my own house so no recovery needed, but I checked my miles and I've done 110 miles from a full tank.

The dash says my average mpg is 36, but 110 miles from 17 litres is only 29mpg. Can the bike computer really be 20% out??

What tank range are you guys getting around town and looonnng journeys?

  2. £15 for half a days fun, bargain I say, who cares?

seriously tho, you shouldnt have touched reserve after 110 miles, something could be wrong, or you need to stop bouncing it off the limiter!!

  3. The bikes new, only done 300 miles so far, but that's mostly in traffic and short trips to work.

  4. you will probably find it gets more economical as its run in. computers tend to suggest your mpg is better than it is. 30mpg is poor if you are doing steady runs, but should improve over 1000 miles.

  5. My fuel light came on at 100 miles. I only did around 5 miles on the countdown mileage so didn't find out how many more miles I could get before running out. How may miles is your reserve counter showing ?

  6. Depending on how briskly I ride it's somewhere between 80 and 100 till the fuel light comes on. :)

  7. All I can say is mine's consistent. Since running it in, my light comes on from 78 miles to 85 at the most!

  9. After a few false lights it stays on between 85 & 95.

  10. Those who have fully run out, at what miles did your light fully come on then how many miles did the countdown show.
When my light was on for 5 miles there still sounded like there was quite a bit of fuel slushing around.

  11. My reserve mileage shows 24 miles so the light must have came on at 86 miles.

  12. Recently on track it still showed over 26 mpg and regularly over 50 mpg taking it quite steady and normal 'progressive' riding still returns over 40 and the light usually doesn't come on until 120 or so. After 10/1198s it's very fuel, efficient or is that just mine

  13. When the light first comes on there is 5 litres left. When it goes on and stays on for good it's 3. Commuting I get 140 to 150 a tank.

  14. Wow, I must not thrash mine enough. Taking some nice back roads to and from work and I get on average 100-120 before the light comes on and then when I fill it's usually only like 13 litres I put in. Think I worked it out that I'd be getting 160 miles to a tank or something if I went until it was dry? I do see the shift lights a couple times to and from work so I don't know if the fuel economy is pot luck?!

  15. Mine has just done 572 miles and I'm getting a reasonable amount over 40mpg according to the display... Bit optimistic I reckon! I seem to get 90ish miles before re-fuelling and the light is normal long coming on at about that time. Haven't done the maths to check mpg yet. That's riding spiritedly but sticking to 6k revs... For the moment!

  16. Usually 90-95miles before the light, but that's absolutely brimming it with "super". Managed 24 miles on countdown before actually coasting to a halt. To be fair the bike gave plenty of warning, starting to stumble a bit for last 10 miles. Probably didn't do it much good but wasn't going to walk that far in leathers :)

  17. I commute daily and the light comes on at 90 miles goes off at 92 comes back on at 96 goes off at 98 the comes back on permenantly at 103 I've had another 17 miles then before getting toooo scared to push any further so 120 miles. Tried different fuels but Esso Supreme gives best mileage She'll nitro drops me about 20 miles a tank

  18. I average around 75-80 miles till light comes on - these are small tanks no good for mile crunching

  19. Correct me if I'm wrong but the average mpg reading will be from when it was last reset? So that could be the average over maybe 2 or 3 tanks of fuel. If you are going to compare the dash mpg to a full tank it needs to be reset at the beginning of that tank. Apologies if you did this.
