Maybe but they win with regularity in wsbk , so maybe the increased power of a motogp engine is whats tying the bike in knots.
As soon as the Perizosi ask's Furusawa for his help got out in the news tells me Ducati are clueless on how they will fix it! Maybe Ducati will quit motogp in 2015 along with Honda and Yamaha when CRT Moto1 takes over and they all go WSB. WSB should start a new prototype race series to run along side WSB without the stupid rules in motogp ? Now that would not surprise me and they would have Honda and Yamaha's full backing!
The point is that to build a winning bike you must design to suit the tyre, and for Ducati that is very difficult, or so it would seem. If tyres were not so important then, Rossi would not have switched and Suzuki would not have quit. Hence, my points above. Ducati could change the design to an IL 4 but where is the innovation in that? What then is the point of prototype racing?
Remind me someone what the single tyre rule was brought in to achieve. Lower cost? How? Level playing field? Well it hasn't done that. Can't see why this rule can't be junked. Might make the Ducati competitive again, and that would be good for Moto GP (quite apart from the fact that a tyre competition is probably good for the consumer).
Would you please remind the class what engine configuration the Ducati superbike has. I understand it handles rather well.
We aren't talking about a 220bhp V twin superbike though. A 250+bhp V4 Motogp bike on Bridgestone tyres is a very different proposition.
Agreed and one of the biggest differences on any 250 bhp+ motogp bike these days seems to be the organism in control of it.
On bridgestone tyres its a different proposition i agree. The geometry is good on the twin and the guys in Bologna know what it is. I dont agree that this changes Fundamentally for the GP bike. If anyone knows the pick up points for the engine mountings on either bike and the relationships of the major parameters we might be able to get somewhere.Otherwise lets agree we know Fek all and wait until the truth emerges.
So adding twice the weight of the cylinders by doubling them up makes no difference? I can't see that being true.
Duke63 do you think i said it makes no difference or someone else, if so thats incorrect. I said i dont think it makes such a fundamental difference that would render the gp bikes geometry useless as compared to the superbikes geometry which i think we can agree is very good.
I'd agree the WSBK works very well but a Motogp bike with two added cylinders, Bridgestone tyres and approx. another 50 bhp is another ball game altogether. I don't think you can say that because the geometry can be set up well on the WSBk that it follows that the Motogp bike will be the same. I know they have twisted the L config upwards on the Motogp bike but all that has done is move the C of G much higher.
Jerry Burgess has leaked a bit but it will be interesting to see what He has to say when his contract expires! One thing He has stated is the lack of progress and updates this year was all down to the Audi purchase..................
Hmmm I dont know how much credence I'd put into Burger's opinions, seeing as how he got --- now let me think --- absolutely no-where. And i cant believe it was in Ducati's interest to stall development or not put an effort into their motogp project whilst in the midst of trying to sell out to Audi, it all reeks of a burger statment covering his arse again. Maybe I'm an old cynic but that's my take.
I bet that Burger's first comment when Rossi has tried the new Yam will be "We've got a bit of work to do on the bike but I'm sure we can have it competitive by the start of the season ". Yeah right the bike will already be competitive. No thanks to Burger. Thats when he will start on about how Ducati have lost their way and didnt listen to him.
Is Burgess going back to Yamaha too? The story was Yamaha didn't want to pay all the first class air fares back to Aus for his crew
