Later this month I will be travelling to a foreign destination and will be riding a bike there. Are there any problems taking a helmet onboard as hand luggage?
A friend did that last year and they told him it had to go in the hold so he packed it in his suitcase. I certainly wouldn't be happy with it in the hold the way they throw the cases about, as I once had a case come back squashed nearly flat.
Depends on who you are flying with. If you intend to fly with only cabin luggage, basic cheap airline tickets will not allow a second piece of luggage. If you have hold luggage you should not have a problem so long as the helmet fits the maximum size gauge which from recent experience is being used for spot checks. Talk to the airline before you fly, Easyjet were very accommodating when we asked to put 2 pairs of wheels with wet tyres in the hold at the last minute. Andy
Indeed, but if you get your carriers rules before you go, at least you know what to expect, and can plan accordingly. Carriers do seem to have their own specific rules-I was not being facetious in my reply!
Wear it? Say it's part of your religion and your happy to remove it for passport checks but it will be worn on the plane. Let me know how it goes ....
Stick it down the front of your trousers. If they ask wether or not you're smuggling a helmet down there you can tell them to stop being so vulgar and walk through in a huff.
David Cameron uses aeroplanes all the time and he is the biggest helmet i can think of and he doesnt seem to have had any problems
Gets worse while wearing a Kriega R25 Backpack (parachute lookalike)... ask me how I know while flying in Southern China, checking my Schubert C3Pro bluetooth battery status.... the strange looks from the onboard crew and fellow passengers.... priceless....
