Fitting R&G bungs to an 848 - anyone done it?

Discussion in '848 / 1098 / 1198' started by riskypicker, Sep 29, 2013.

  1. Im doing a set now for a track day tomorrow.

All a bit last minute to be honest and thats my fault, and my usual MO to be fair.

All seems straight forward apart from the bit about pushing the supplied 12mm rod through the engine mount and pushing the OEM long bolt/bar out.

The OEM bar has a 10mm diameter apart from a collar right at the allen end.

The R&G is 12mm all the way.

I cant get the bugger to go in. Tapping by hand as i was wary it was wider. Gets about an inch in and seems to get stuck.

Anyone fitted them and can suggest a tip? Not willing to rubber mallet it in just yet.

The provided instructions are for a 1098 but ive checked the R&G site and both 1098 and 848 have same product code so shouldnt be any different.

    Cheers

  2. Are there the under fairing ones? I know the r&g is asymmetrical. Have you tried turning it round?

  3. R&G goes in from the rhs. Should tap through.

  4. No not the under fairing ones though on reflection i wish i had gone for those as i did on my 1098. Not sure R&G make them, got my last ones from BSD in Peterborough.

Greased her up and made sure i was square on, then rammed it home in the end.

Went in eventually. Just took a bit of a shove.

  5. R&G make them. Piece of pi$$ to fit!

  6. Has anyone got the outer fairing ones fitted? I'd quite like them as they saved the day on my SF, but am unsure about drilling the oem fairings. No going back!

    Any pics? Thanks.

  7. I had them on my 1098s. Saved me a fortune when I dropped the bike!

Really easy to measure fit if you take your time. I put a long bolt in the bracket and painted the end... then offered the fairing up... then drilled a small hole where the corresponding paint mark was on the fairing inside... fitted the fairing and inspected how the small hole lined up with the bracket... then got the hole cutter tool out!

  8. Quite clever, thanks mate. Think I may get them. Do you have any pictures of the bike?
