@bradders if you find you are able to come along, I suggest booking the hotel asap - if there are any rooms still left. I propose to co-ordinate the train bookings (so that we might all get on the same train this time) next week.
@Pete1950 covert operation in place....facebook post to mates asking if anyone wants to join me = missus sees while out, moans to her mates and hopefully used to the idea by the weekend I should have been in politics.... I have checked tonight and they have availability for rooms.
Burgess and MacLean defecting to the Soviets was less complicated. And they didn't book return tickets.
Think I've got the right one now, booked dble room and asked about secure oarking, but figured we may be able to double up if they have car spaces Tunnel booking....we going for this?
Looks like it. I'll be arriving back at Bristol Airport from Manchester on the Thursday night at 21:30. I think I will drive straight down towards Folkestone with my bike in my van on the Thursday night, and stay in a Premier Inn or similar and then ride to the meet-up point in the morning. I just need to find somewhere to leave my van till Monday when we come back. Any suggestions anyone?
Yes, we already have a couple of car spaces reserved in the secure parking, which should be enough for all the bikes. Hold on a minute with the tunnel bookings . There are different types of bookings available. With some types you are automatically put on the next available train, regardless of the time you booked for. With other types the terms & conditions are different and they only allow you to turn up "within two hours" of your booked time; this usually means they won't put you on an earlier train than your booked time, only on a later train. If members of our party purchase different categories of ticket, or book different train times, we may not all get on the same train. What I had in mind was for us to book tickets for a time slightly earlier than we can feasibly catch, so we all get put on to the next train after.
I make it FIVE - see post #1 which I have just updated. If anybody else wants to come, now is the time to say so or forever hold your piece.
@Pete1950, I'm looking forward to all the pictures. Hope all of you have a great (and safe) trip. Very jealous.
I feel that if @AirCon and @bradders swallowed a few beers together in Strasbourg they would get along just fine, past debates notwithstanding.
Dear All - Just so that we all book the same type of ticket on the same time train. Please book yourself a SHORT STAY SAVER ticket on Eurotunnel for Friday 22 May 2015 at 09.20 and return on Monday 25 May 2015 at 18.36. Cost is £40 + £33 = £73. With this ticket, if we arrive up to TWO HOURS late, we will just be put on the next train. Peter @bradders@Dave @MaDProFF
Yes P.S. Don't forget to log on to the Eurotunnel site Advanced Passenger Information (API) and input your details, passport number, etc. Otherwise there may be a holdup at the terminal.
