I'd like to preface this by stating as a first time ducati buyer, I'd like some insight for a few reasons...I'm not too familiar with resale values or first year quirks of ducati, amongst other things, hence the post. I'm also greatful for your time and advice. I'm aware of the differences between the 1199S and 1299 Base more or less and don't intend on tracking this bike regularly. My local dealer has just offered me a 2014 1199S DEMO with 900 miles for $18,500 out the door...taxes tag title included first service already done by them and comes with a full factory warranty. $18,500 OTD seems like a great price for an S, but it is a DEMO...and I'm not sure that the 1299 Base wouldn't be a better deal. 1299 Base is a year newer, and has a good amount of upgrades over the 1199...I can get a Base 1299 around $20,500 OTD. Interested in hearing your thoughts, and I'm sorry if this thread is repetitive, but I assume it's a fairly new quandary I'm presenting.
I think the only way you will tell is to go and test ride both. I've not ridden a 1299 yet but when speaking to those who have, they all seem to say the additional torque makes it a much better road bike. I wouldn't worry about buying a dealer's demo bike with so few miles on it though.
If it was my money, the 1299 engine, wheelie control and cornering ABS would swing it in favour of the 1299. I don't think the non semi-active Ohlins on the 1199 is enough to sway it for me. I may well be in a similar position of making the same choice later in the year.
Comparing to new really, ie new bike full 24m warranty, demo will have whats left which could be 18m or less, depends how long its been a demo
