Help! Just Got Done For Speeding

Discussion in 'Lounge' started by slipper1, May 3, 2015.

  1. Hi all, just received a notice of intended prosecution from Wales police after being caught by a mobile speed camera on the A494 in Wales.
It's a very fast bit of dual carriageway 60MPH speed limit and I was clocked at 102MPH, now the question is do I respond to the letter saying it was me hold my hands up and take whatever they have in store for me or ignore the letter?
It says failure to supply info will result in 6 points and a fine! Will that be it or could they still require me to go to court?

    Dave.

  2. Oooops

Honesty is always the best policy
Why would you want to say it wasn't you when it was ;)

  3. No it was deffo me, but do I take 6 points and a fine or risk getting a moody judge who may hand out a ban.

  4. I think judges like honesty
You may get off lightly for being honest and not wasting time
If you don't give info I suspect you will get the points /fine and a court case

  5. If you have been offered a fine and points take it. If you go to court it can only end badly.

  6. why is it 60mph limit?

  7. There's plus points for both here. Over 100 even on a motorway is generally a ban of some period, especially for bikers somehow. So to know ignore it and you're only taking 6 points aint bad if your licence is clean right now. Equally an early plea and showing respect and remorse in court helps. Usually adding the line, 'I was concentrating more on the road and conditions than my speedo, it didn't feel that fast.' along with a bunch of humble apologizing and that's got me minimum penalties a couple of times.
As already said though, if you're guilty and can avoid court I'd take it. You never know if the magistrates wife ran away with a biker or his daughter was injured on a bike or what other reason they might have to come down harder on you than you think fair. And the fine has court costs and a victims charge on top too.
Best of luck with it, and thanks for the info on the road.

  8. Sorry but when you fill in the form and send it off it will be returned with a court appearence letter attached to it . Thats what happened to me anyway .

  9. Get in touch with a layer who deals in speeding cases, he won't get you off, but kniws how to minimise the damage.
But doing 30 more than the speed limit will mean a court visit and possible ban, so a lawyer may get you off with 6-9 points and a hefty fine rather than a ban.

  10. :mad:Sorry to hear that you were caught:Banghead:

+30 over the limit is always a ban
, unless considerable hardship can be demonstrated (loss of a job etc). They may impose 11 or 12 points instead of a ban, but this hurts more in the long term. I know because my brother and I were done a few years back at the same time. I went the attend court and asked for mercy and he went with the in the post job.
6 months ban is normal, but you can normally wangle it down to 3-4 weeks.
Get a motoring solicitor or at least visit this site and ask for help.

  11. If you try this route you'll just have the old bill pay you a visit for the information....tried that one as well.

  12. Take the points and fine.

  13. He won't be able to (but it's worth a try). He'll just get a letter telling him to attend court.

  14. Yeah, just re-read the OP, there's no offer of points/fine, just a warning about failure to supply.
    Looks like Hobson's Choice then...

  15. On a technical note if it was a mobile speed camera and you were on a bike with no front number plate how did they identify you ? Was it one of these new fangled devices that follows you past and gets a photo from the rear ?

  16. I will note that down for future reference :upyeah:, but hopefully I will never need it.

  17. What you may choose to do is frustrate the process such that you court date is in the late autumn, therefore you won't miss any summer riding.

  18. Are they saying 6 Points for the speeding offence or 6 points for the offence of witholding the drivers information ? I'd get a solicitors advice before doing anything.
