Just a heads up on information regarding instrument panel replacement, if you have a '13> Multi and think it will be no problem............ think again! I am told that not all '13 bikes will update, the technician said mine was the first that he got this far with (i.e. possibly accepting a mileage update). The total kilometres is stored in the BBS module. To transfer that data to the instrument panel a code is required that is issued from Ducati - Bologna To receive that code the dealer must supply a number of bike specific details (I believe it was BBS no., Instrument no., & VIN no. - but I may not have remembered the exact details correctly) I am told that once the code is requested (by email) it could take anywhere between 1 - 48 hours for the dealer to receive it. Apparently there are only 2 people at the factory that can issue the code, might be in a meeting, blah, blah, blah Once issued the code is only valid for 6 hours. The above is as I've been informed by my dealer, I've no reason to doubt it but others may have a different experience. It seems my dealer was not aware of the code requirement until doing the job on my bike. Not including recalls this is warranty claim number 6 (all different faults) and had hoped I could get the panel changed at the same time as they replaced the faulty fuel sender, which they did, but to date I still have mileage back to zero and counting, so yet another trip still required. The latest is I'm waiting on a call from the dealer when they receive a code, I then have to get the bike to them within 6 hours. I'm fortunate to live down the bottom end of sunny Cornwall (it is at the moment ), great place to live...but a 3 hour round trip every time I need to visit my nearest Ducati dealer (in this case for a 5 minute job). Was fully aware of that when I bought the bike but naively thought "well it's only once a year for a service" LOL....:Banghead: By the way, apparently Ducati are tightening up on warranty claims, the dealer must have sight of the bike before making a claim. So that's two or three trips to your "local" dealer every time it goes wrong. Do the math, how many hours/miles have I wasted riding up and down the A30/A38?
That's odd, I got a new dash fitted a few months ago, the mechanic said all he has to do is plug in his laptop and it asks if he wants to transfer the mileage from the bikes memory to the display and the same with the secret start code for if you lose your key, not sure why the dash would need a start code? sounds to me like if u had a spare dash you could go around nicking mutlys willy nilly.
Yes, mechanic said started that way but then gets to point where code is required. Also said he'd replaced on other '13 bikes and no option to enter mileage. He complained that there was no consistency across Ducati range. Unless I'm being misinformed there are obviously a number of variations out there, or are technicians using different comms software? My new clock had no pin installed as if new bike, so had to set that to make secure. Dealer was remiss in not warning me, but I'd checked anyway.
Odd. took them no time to sort my mileage after the clocks replacement. I don't recall them having to go through all that. Just chucked it on the Ducati software and was done in a couple of mins.
Finally got my mileage updated on the new clocks. Took a while for Ducati and dealer to get their act together, eventually Bologna were able to supply a code in advance to the dealer that would be valid for a given date (so maybe the 6hr limit I was previously told is not 100% correct). However what was surprising (to the mechanic also) is that the mileage value had to be entered manually, it did not take it from what is stored on the BBS. Looks like there must be several versions of the system around.
So the mileage would be much less than its actually done if you don't have the code ...... some folk pay money out for that service ..... well .... So I've heard ...... snigger
Please note the 2010 clocks are physically exactly the same as the 2013/4 clocks. Same everything, same water problems. I can only assume that some new software allows the updated mileage.
Mine's a 2013 S Touring by the way, I suspect there may be software differences between Skyhook/non-Skyhook models in more ways than just the suspension?
