With respect to the 899 guys, they have a good thread going about range and reserve. Obviously an 1199 is going to be different although the all important reserve range probably won't be much different at all. What range are you getting and what reserve range is there... for sure and to dry. In the UK on an 1199s with Termies and an up map I get 100 miles before the stop n pay light comes on. I read an article that says the reserve range was 10 miles but how can that be from 5 litres. Even with the light permanently on at 3 litres as one post in the 899 thread states the range should be far more than 10 miles. I'm on a tour and find the range varies a lot but generally I'm getting more. At one point I was at 117 miles no light and nervous.
As above although I'm fairly sure I get close to 100 miles even in dickhead mode on most roads Reserve has a definite 18 miles in it, I know because I coasted to an empty halt in the garage forecourt!!
Standard 1199 ABS, I usually get 100 miles, then the light starts flickering. I work on having 20 miles once the fuel light is on permanently. I've seen 130 miles.... but I'm sweating!! :Nailbiting:
Pani R - still running in (up to 7000 rpm now) and getting 110-115 miles before first going onto reserve when commuting/motorway mix.
my 1199 is always empty, every time I get out on it, its either empty or nearly empty. Luckily the cheapest fuel i our area is nearly 500 yds away. I cannot imagine its range is anywhere near 100 miles before the yellow light comes on, in fact I thought its nearer 75. Now Im going to have to start checking.
I feel as though I'm attached to a petrol pump when ever I go out on my pani .. Oh well she gives me pleasure I reckon 80 on a good day in sport mode .. Reserve prob 10 miles at a push in miss daisy mode .. Bham to castle Combe I had to fill up twice there ... Mmmmm
Quite funny replies. It's always empty. It's true. Maybe I'll change its nick name to 'The Throat'. Think you'll find the yellow light means 'Ice' though. I know, I saw it last week. 18 miles with pay more tax light on. Maybe 20 miles? It's good to know especially when you could be doing 40 miles between seeing gas stations as I am in Spain. So anything over 80 miles and I pull in. The result being I haven't had to push it.... yet. And Royal is right, up n down mountains seems to make it good n thirsty. I've ranged between 80 n 117miles.
90 miles between safe fill-ups. Any further and you might run out before you find a pump open... any less can only mean lots of hills, bends, empty straights, all of which are hen's teeth in Blighty.
.......hmmmmn, but can a motorbike be 'driven' ? And no, your wit didn't pass me by, just in case you think it did !
Yesterday I did 17.1 miles on reserve, pulled in to gas up and squeezed 14.5 litres into the tank. If the tank capacity is 17 ltrs then that leaves 2.5 ltrs still in it. Leaving me with a question about the reserve range. None of us want to be pushing. Royal said he maxed out at 18 miles. Anyone done more on reserve. It's just good to know where the limit is.
you need to post your average speeds also, that will give a better indication of type of riding. I get 90-100, There is at least 25 miles in reserve riding steady. I love the counter reset when the fuel reserve comes on.
I managed twenty miles on reserve last week. It felt like it was going to cut out at any moment as I was rolling into the petrol station!
From experience of conking out on the M23 I won't go above 25 miles. Luckily the wife wasn't far away!
