Just had belts done on my 999 and P&H Crawley £ 235.00 inc, not bad I thought ! Anyone had them for less ?
Italsport bury, nice guys. I do 80% of my servicing but haven't plucked up the courage to do belts & shims. Worth getting both done together as they're "in there".
is that Bury Lancs ? should one do the shims, is there any signs that they need doing as I havn't do mine
Yeah, bit of a trek from Sussex. Could always relocate to secure cheaper servicing. Shims are a check and replace if needed. If your bikes running well then chances are they won't need any changing. I guess that partly why mine was so cheap as they measured within tolerances.
Best tip I can offer is to gather a few key phrases from my list, and string them together. Cambelt bingo see. Soon you'll be saving shitloads, while also sounding like you're in the know. Eyes down, and off we go Two years? That's nothing mate Would you stretch to three? My pleasure Amigo! I'm here at your disposal Now we've resolved the belt situation, I'm debating whether to offer shafts of wisdom on other popular topics. Nothing is off limits:redface:
Not keen on landing strips, prefer a full Hollywood Let me know if you wanna talk pattern oil filters any time
only pay for belts - £135 and do it yourself, see you tube (3 parts film). All done in half an hour. I have changed belts after 3 years and did not notice any crackings on them.
yes definately learn to do your own belts it is something that builds trust in your abilities to mechanic/trust your bike. Purchase a cam locking tool from ebay , and you can make changing your belts easier than the youtube malarky with all the marking of your belts .
Shims need checking every 6,000 miles. I had a service & belts done at P&H a couple of years ago, they never mentioned about the shims and I didn't know they needed doing. It wasn't until I had some service work done at ProTwins a year or so later that Pete noticed in the service book that they hadn't been done by P&H when they should have been, so ProTwins now do all the servicing on my bike. P&H......jack of all trades dealer.....masters of none!
