749 Roughly How Much

Discussion in '749 / 999' started by tater, May 7, 2015.

  1. Hello from me as a new to the marque owner of a yellow 749s.

just a quick question about horses. I've only ridden the bike back from the purchase so not given it too many beans as yet. The bike has a full termi system and race ECU fitted, roughly how much power should it be making? cant seem to find any kind of definitive answer.

    Thanks !

  2. Which year as I think the later S's had a bit more grunt ?

  3. About a hundred at r.wheel.
2003-103bhp 2004-110bhp. You need to know when yours was made not when registered.

  4. Yellow would be a mark/series 1 (grey swingarm) so the S lump in those is the same as the non S lump in the black swingarm version (mark 2). So i think it's 108bhp.

I may be horrendously wrong on that though.

  5. Ducati

And depending on the mapping i'dd guess the termi adds 5bhp. But also saves some weight!

  6. Thanks, its a grey swinger on there so early S. pulls strongly through the range so was pleasantly surprised on the short run i had on it. With a history of litre inline 4's was expecting things to feel "less" than what they are. pleasantly surprised!

  7. They are a great bike. There is an argument that is all you need on the road, i have been very happy with mine since i bought it new in 06.

Go up a few teeth on the rear sprocket asap, as it feels turbo charged after that :)

  8. :) Its been in my head to try one for a while, a friends been shouting their praise for many a year and i love the looks and engineering detail. hopefully lots of happy memories await! i definitely love the over the top sounds it makes.

  9. Second the sprocket upgrade.... Massive improvement around town and pulls hard but balanced out of corners...... Recommend a basic suspension set up after... Best £40-50 ever spent .... Enjoy:upyeah:

  10. Apols to jack the thread - the sprocket thingy sounds something I'd be interested in doing as losing a few mph at top end doesn't matter to me. Would I need to get a Speedo healer? Or more importantly, is your actual speed faster or slower than that indicated, as if slower then not really a problem I guess?
@ tater - glad you're enjoying the bike. Bought mine without testing cos I liked how it looks and 2 1/2 years on still think I made a cracking choice:):upyeah:

  11. The speedo reading stays the same mate so no worries there. There is a chart on Ducati Up North that tells you how many teeth to go, I think it is to 43 (from 39).

  12. Thank you sir. Will get that done at some stage - bike is fine as is, but slightly shorter gearing low down will be useful for town / 30 limits with the bonus of the bend exits!

  13. Yellow ones are quicker anyway... Get some pics up and let's have a peep :p

  14. Whats the standard number of teeth front and back?? Its possible mines already been done as the amount of low down grunt was genuinely surprising, although that could just be my lack of Twin knowledge. The bikes been modded in other ways so possible its already done.

  15. Cheers Pavey.
