Technology; What Do We Want And What Do We Need On Our Bikes

  1. Good idea. But if I didn't exceed a certain speed, there really wouldn't be any point in my taking my bike out at all - something I often think about. Suppose the device limited me to 50 mph on the open road: I'd just stay at home and do something else. So would I set it to "big fine but no prison" or "prison, but only a short stretch" or "legal"?
Got it! What we need is a OEM radar detector. THAT would be the best bit of technology you could get on a bike.

  2. The rear brake could be provided with a "lock on" facility, for use on steep hills to stop the bike rolling backwards.

  3. I can't believe this idea came from a Multistrada owner.
I thought you'd start by just wanting a rear brake that braked.

  4. Several good ideas have come up here just now ... except that cruise control, economy control, top speed control, all of these can be carried out manually, by the rider.
Whilst automating these processes is terribly convenient when all is working well, they create a potential obstacle should they go wrong.

  5. It is the rider's choice and option whether to set it to ON, and if so what speed to set it at. Just like a twistgrip, really, only easier to use.

  6. Why thank you kind sir.

  12. That leans over at a jaunty angle for faster speeds prior to deployment

  13. That feature would be "just for show" on the Scrambler, right?

  14. Nope, it may have to lean backwards a little :)

  16. When I said "economy mode", I didn't mean just opening the throttle less. I meant a different map of ignition, fuel injection and DVT valve timing settings, tuned specifically for economical operation,as an alternative to the usual thirsty ones.

  19. Surprised leg protectors and air bags haven't been mentioned...:)

  20. I can't get excited by anything technological. The most fun I have had on bikes is with my current 749R and previously my RC8R, TLR, none which hold any of this advanced technology. ABS possibly is quite beneficial but anything else for the road just ain't needed. New bikes bore me now. Apart from the Panigale of course.
