    And I'm sure I replied to Petes post above yet it's gone? @El Toro has someone deleted my explanation ( such was calm, measured and simply stated facts)?!

  2. Yours to the tunnel is 180 miles; Calais to Strasbourg is 400. It's up to you, but do you really think 580 miles in the day plus a Channel crossing is realistic? You'll be half dead, or at least half asleep.

  3. I've done 1800 miles in the last 7 days 1250 the week before. Walk in the park ;)

    Going to see how I feel and the weather. Warmish and dry probably. Wet and cold I'll stay more locally

  4. Good point. 580 miles in the pouring rain is a lot different from 580 miles in the dry.

  6. Today I met up with @MaDProFF for breakfast near Sevenoaks, and then Ken E for a lunchtime drink at Earl's Colne, Essex. All lined up for the trip to Strasbourg in a fortnight.

  11. Well yes, really. Using touring bikes for touring is not obligatory. It's just the sensible option.

    Thinking of investing in a top box and not using panniers, given last years dash thru decreasing gap traffic...

  15. Seems as if @gliddofglood might be able to ride his 999 up from Switzerland and join us for a bit of our trip, which would be great. We'll see if it can be made to work.

  19. Decided not to buy the big pants in goretex, bollox I'll go with what I have. Down to outdoor direct tm to get some waterproof spray and coat everything in that...

  20. Weather forecast for Friday is dry, London - Calais - Strasbourg. After that, anybody's guess.
