749 What Model Bike Have I Got?

Discussion in '749 / 999' started by Philip, May 8, 2015.

  1. Hi all,

I know this is going to be a stupid question but here goes....

I've recently bought an early 2005 749S but with a grey frame. There are a few parts that need replacing such as the rear hugger and I'd like to add a numberboard to protect the front fairing. I also wanted to fit some paddock bobbins but can't because I have the 'grey' swing arm which doesn't have any fittings.

So here is the daft question...should I be buying parts for a 02-04 bike or 05-onwards?

Sorry, this is my first Ducati so any help would be really appreciated.

    Thanks all!

  2. Welcome, Philip. Sounds like you have an early version there so your looking for '02 - '04 bike parts. Checking the frame serial number will confirm this beyond doubt.

  3. You can get crash protector bobbins that go through the axle - looks like you have a 2003/04 model.

  6. Hi Philip, do you have radial or axial mounted front brakes? I have a 2004 999S (silver frame) with 2-1-2 full Termi system. I'm making some modifications to it. Converted to a 2005 box swingarm. The Termi mid-pipe has to be modified to clear the swingarm. A splattering of titanium here and there plus other goodies.
I use a Bursig paddock stand.

  7. Drop me your VIN number on a pm and I'll check for you on Monday if it helps :)

  8. As far as I`m aware, the tenth digit in your frame number is year of manufacture, ie: 3 = 2003, 4= 2004 etc.

    ZDM is Italy, Ducati, motorcycle.
If the eleventh digit is a "B" that stands for Bologna.
The last six digits are production numbers.

  9. Mine only has 5 digits :(

  11. is it a full termi system then? I have standard mid pipes for both swingarms if any use?

  12. Use a 748 - 998 single sided paddock stand it'll fit, easier to use, dont need no bobbins........
