899 Gearbox Issues

  1. hi has anyone else suffered any gearbox issues? My 899 has started failing to select 2nd 3rd and 4 th when hot intermittently and it struggles to get first when you come to a standstill. It also causes the lever to stick down and you have to force it up by taking your foot off the peg and forcing it back up

  2. Can't say I've had any issues at all. Still running sweet but only have about 1400 miles on it... How many does yours have?

  3. Mine is a bastard to get into neutral.... it's going in next week anyway; I'll see what they say. It really pisses me off!

  4. Mines done 1200 miles, it's really odd just hope it's not a major problem

  5. Hi Jamie I had same prob how many miles have you on yours

  6. I notice that mine can be a bit of a pain to get into neutral when it's cold but no issues at all once it's warmed up. I'd be interested to hear what Ducati have to say about it?

  7. I am on nearly 4000 Miles and Touch wood - no issues yet - let us know what the dealer says

  8. 600 mate. Just about to go in for servicing. The DQS has missed 6th on several occasions too, resulting in red-line revs.... during the run-in period

  9. Could it be lever position and/or chain tightness?

  10. I had this exact issue 4->5 and 5->6 very often. I phoned Ducati to ask them about it and their response was along the lines:

'Don't worry about it, we know that this tends to happen but as the gearbox beds in the problem decreases until usually around 1000 miles it doesn't happen anymore.'

I thought that this was a stupid answer but decided to go along with it and got the first service at ~750 miles and at about 1100 miles I noticed it hadn't done it again. Now at about 1400 and not a single issue anymore.

So I guess in a long-winded reply my advice would be to clutch it for now with the occasional DQS shift and see how it is following the first service and 1000+ miles on the clock. :)

  11. My dqs played up a little sub 600 miles and seems to be fine now post 700, interesting to hear it's known to cause issues in the early days and it wasn't me not being positive enough with the lever. Having said that, the gear lever is now 1-2mm higher and much easier to use. Never had a quick shifter before, its awesome in the upper rev range!!

  12. Dont understand why you would use dqs under flat out revs and hard acceleration. Unneccesary stress on the box imo.

  13. you missed your gears mate, you need to wind out your gear lever adjusted 1 or 2 turns. pig of a job. you can only unscrew rose joint, quick shift end doesnt adjust .

  14. Having not had one before I was keen to see what it was like. I agree that they don't come into there own until higher up the rev range, brilliant none the less.

  15. Mines now done 1400 miles and is getting worse, doesn't make any difference if you use the clutch or dqs, I now have to stop and pull the lever up when it gets stuck and pull it really hard!! When it happens if you can get it back into a gear it starts jumping out under hard acceleration very frustrating

  16. Dont mess about just take it back to the dealers and let them sort it,100% not normal.

  17. more revs= more stress on box using clutch or qs surely?

  18. Lower revs - clutchless shift, highte revs with hard acceleration - dqs

Its the dqs that destroys gearboxes, not revs

  19. so you think low revs with dqs is bad?

  20. Only based on experience around race paddocks and lots of mates with Ducati bikes and QS fitted. If the thing isnt working perfectly, its std fit after all so no idea how good it is (I run HM on my track bike) in my mind it may cause issues

If its low revs a simple clutchless seems enough. QS is about savimg laptimes. Although I get the appeal, love mine its addictive, but even at lower short shift revs (8k vs 10500 red line) I am accelerating hard

I'm no mechanic nor engineer, just have reasonable experince and know plenty who are
