Nothing to do with brand loyalty. Its mere common sense in my opinion. I dont use my bike in conditions which we both can agree are harsh for components on a bike so my fork bottoms are perfect. You use it in winter so your arent. A bike which has had summer use is always going to look nicer than a winter "hack". Why do you have a summer pushbike and a winter one? On your rules you should be riding the summer bike right through the winter surely?
That's cool. I've never had to google corrosion issues on either of mine. I'm not categorically saying other brands don't suffer. My 2 year old 675R and 4 year old BMW are in excellent nick. Cleaned in the same way, same products, ridden in same conditions etc etc so thats what i know. The 899 isn't in excellent nick and Ducati are replacing the affected parts. Don't worry i still love my 899 and still love Ducati.
I don't have rules on winter/summer use. I have an old pushbike and couldn't care at all if it rusts, i don't need to worry about it after i throw it in the garage. I have chosen to use my 899 as i enjoy riding it in all weathers. I'm basing my opinion on the fact i've ridden my other two bikes through multiple winters, everyday in both cases. Neither of them corroded like the 899, neither needed parts replaced after 4 months. I fully understand that parts corrode in rain and salt. I don't understand why folks have a problem with me pointing out my corrosion issues and asking if anyone else is suffering the same. Even Ducati don't have a problem with me pointing out the corrosion.
Probably. Sorry. I just read someone got a new car for corrosion on that BMW corrosion link you posted.
My 899 was ACF treated before I picked it up then done again two weeks later at 1st service then two weeks after that it was back at dealers because signs of salt corrosion were showing. Only answer is do not use in winter
Ive no problem with you pointing corrosion issues out, but its down to YOUR usage, and YOUR cleaning as to why this is happening. This was pointed out 6 pages back by several members Use the bike in summer and it wont happen, or use the bike with adequate winter protection without washing it off every day and it wont happen as much. Its interesting that you apply logic to the pushbikes but not to motorbikes. For what its worth i abuse my 5k pushbike, 7 k pushbike and 4k pushbike in any weather or conditions but i dont moan when they look like theve been left at bottom of the sea as thats my choice. I wont use my 1199 as i dont want to ruin it, and i hate riding in winter on a motorbike. anyway.
triumph use better parts or corrosion resistence? So why not employ common sense and use the bike which is more suited to the task? And now you will say that why should you pay 11k for a bike and not use it. Use the thing in summer if you ar that botherd about corrosion and use a different better bike. Im gonna go ride my carbon wheeled , carbon framed road bike over some muddy trails and then come on the interent and moan when its broken. Then im going to continue to do it and keep moaning.
After only 2 rides my chain went rusty so ducati have said i can have a new chain so the dealer are gonna fit a nice gold chain instead !
What dealer are you using? Mine told me it was down to poor maintenance. I've never had this level of corrosion on any other make in 24 years of riding.
Ive had my z1ooo for just over a month now, the lad that owned it before me bought it brand new in September (64 plate) and proceeded to ride it through the entire winter every day, he did'nt really clean it ever apart from the body work. It was used for motorway driving (when I got it the back tyre was squared off more than ive ever seen any other tyre squared off for that matter). Once I got it I stripped it to pieces to clean it.....bad points. Most of the bolts holding the engine together had corroded (4.5k miles when I got it). Good points: The paint covering the engine was all intact, no peeling. All of the pressed mild steel coated bits, brackets holding the rad, exhausts had to be recoated, surprisingly the chain was in the best nick, it was coated so badly I thought it was black in colour but turned out to be a stainless finish which hasn't shown any signs of wear. Im in work now and not on it today otherwise I would have taken a pic...just in the process of replacing all the corroded bolts at the moment...all in all not as bad as my hyper considering the life that its had up to my ownership, when I took the exhaust system off to fit the arrow headers I could see the whole bottom of the bike which was covered in silt from the road, dried salt, oil, pretty well everything that could have been thrown at it and its cleaned up really well, I think I could safely say that had the hyper been subjected to the same treatment it wouldn't have faired so well....
Seastar superbikes... I had to give them pics of my chain and then close ups of yhe bike to make sure rest of bike was ok ... It only took a month or 2 for the chain to rust think it was down to the wax that was on it trapping moisture
Thats what i do ! But chain rusted when the bike wasnt used... It got dropped off in january and put straight in the garage noticed the rust end of feb after 1 rideout
