1200 Pannier Mounting Rubber

  1. Ok this is not a biggy but I can see it becoming irritating, last time out I left the panniers at home as they were not being used. When we made a quick stop, the right hand pannier mounting rubber tried to make an escape, luckily my wife spotted it on the floor. Now it could be that it got kicked off as I had my daughter on the back, but I dont want to leave it to cahnce and find I am constantly buying new ones.
The obvious and probably simplest thing to do is take the mounting rubbers off when the panniers are not being used or try and glue them in place. Has anyone else had this happen, what do you do?

  2. I take them off unless using the panniers...

  3. Silicone, or Bostik... It will stay in place

  4. Happens to all eventually. I take mine off, others glue.

  5. Lock wire them for that race spec look [emoji12]

  6. I take the whole brackets off when im not using the panniers and have glued them on for the occasional on/off pannier trips

  7. I've tried superglue and silicone glue, but they don't stay on forever. I now take them off when panniers are off.

  8. Mine came off bery early into ownership

Replaced and dealer added bit of silicone for me

  9. I've used bostick contact adhesive, I couldn't get them off now if I wanted to.

  10. Thanks to @Pete1950 I removed mine unless I'm running with Panniers....as he warned me.

  11. Use sikaflex 291 or 291i.....it's used on boats at sea!
    Like Sh1t to a blanket.

  12. And here's me, new to the mutley, with no idea what rubber mounts you lot are on about. Anyone with a piccy so I can secure mine asap.

  13. JH, don't say you haven't glued them on yet :Wideyed: You'd better do it asap.

  14. The engine gave out after 2 weeks, the clocks reset their mileage and a puff of smoke came out of the LH side... A bit of rubber is the least of my worries.

Still, should get the fixed multi back tomorrow. Would like to keep the rubber if I can

  15. I glued my pannier mount rubbers in place four years ago, and they have been just fine ever since. No problem. The question is: does the same issue arise with the 2015 DVT model, or has it been solved? I suppose I'll soon find out.

  16. I glued mine on with clear silicone sealant on the day I got it, 12 months and 9,000miles on and they are still there.

Find something else to worry about because this is an easy one.

  17. I also glued my pannier mounting rubbers on from new and they are still in place. I also glued the rubber cover on the lifting handle and the rubber on the back of the pillion seat.

  18. Well Like I said not a biggy, but its intersting to know that others have had the issue, sort of confirms that it didn't necessarily get kicked off! Think I'll take them off when not in use, then when they get lost at least I know they are in the garage somewhere! :)

  19. Glue - then it's one less thing to bother about.:upyeah:

  20. The 2015 DVT does have the same problem. I take them off and put them in the pannier until next time needed.
