Electrical Gremlins?

  1. I've just got a rather thorough soaking on my 1198. I've now gained a yellow dash warning light (second from the left) and the speed reading has been replaced by dashes. The odometer still works incidentally. Any ideas please?
    It's a a standard 2012 model.

  2. Amendment - it seems the odometer isn't working.
Would I be correct in assuming that the speed pick up is driven by the sensor on the front wheel? If so is it possible that removing, cleaning and drying said pick up would cure it, or am I being optimistic?
Thanks for any help in advance.

  3. isn't the sensor on the rear wheel im shure worth taking off and cleaning also would check all your connections on the clocks give them a dry and spray with wd40 worth a shot

    • 999 has sensor on the swing arm, picking up magnetic impulses from the disc bolts. I had these symptoms when I swapped steel for titanium bolts.
    Although my motor ran ok.
Simple cure for me was to silicone steel ball bearings into the Allen bolt heads.
Maybe your sensor needs drying out.

  4. Thanks. I'll try that first before I fit a new sensor. It's obviously the rear one - the one that's a bugger to get to then!

  5. Might help if you can pull the rear wheel off. Should be on the caliper mount.
