Mutley recall to replace keyless ignition unit

  1. Had the 15k service 10 days ago and was told by dealer that a recall had just been announced to replace the keyless ignition unit because there had been incidences of owners being unable to enter their pin code as the buttons beneath the pad appeared to be jamming. Had the unit replaced today and this also includes replacing the kill switch ,both keys and all the barrel locks, including those for the top box etc.

At the service I complained that the rear brake was about as much use as a chocolate teapot. As a result the dealer arranged to replace the lines (again) and the master cyclinder. Both warranty work took about 4 1/2 hours in total. I can report that at last I have a working rear brake.I just hope it lasts longer than 500 miles. Even managed to get the rear disc hot for the first time ever!

  2. What was the cost of the 15k service?

  3. £350 inc vat

  4. Is this a proper recall or one like the rear brake/fork rattle where they only attend to it if the customer complains about it?

And is it just for the early build ones or 2011/12 as well?

  5. Is that a typo? If not please let me know who the dealer was and where! My 15k is approaching (13k miles but over 1 year since the 7.5k service)

No recall received by me but maybe it'll take a few weeks to be sent out. I need to get the broken rear light sorted under extended warranty also.

  6. Its a proper recall.I had made no complaint re the unit or kill switch. Not sure if it relates to all model years.

Kirky- No typo. Sycamores at Uppingham. Contact Todd

  7. Snailspace,
How old is your multi, Just wondering if its for the early models or is the recall for all.
Have to go in soon for new front M/Cylinder and work on rear again.

  8. Mine is a 2010 model. Just given my dealer a quick call and he said recall relates to 2010 and 2011 models only.

  9. Thanks for posting. Mine was in with the Dealer on Tuesday (replacement steering lock), also a 2010 model (May/June) - no mention of any recall or need to replace the keyless ignition unit. If you can squeeze a bit more info (a copy of the Ducati memo would be perfect  ) out of your Dealer I would be grateful!
Any indication given if the replacement parts for the rear brake (brake lines and master cylinder) are updated/upgraded in any way or the same as the 'fix' parts previously fitted?

  10. I will see what I can do. I personally have seen no paperwork. As to the rear brake, the lines look the same as the original upgrade, the master cylinder looks slightly larger than original. Not sure whether the master cylinder is a new fix or is an old fix.

  11. I have a 2012 Multi , The probs are endless , Ive now had cutting out probs in the lat month , a mysteriously low battery last week which I gave a small charge, I thought just maybe I had left the switch in wrong posistion and that was the cause , It isnt! , just been out to the bike now and its completely dead ! , Im furious ! , having read some other posts on here I think it could be that bloody switch unit ... and this is a 2012 model , My rear brake is useless too ! Dealer convinced me that it just feels that way due to the abs dtc kicking in ... I must admit if you turn the dtc off the brake does appear to lock up ok as any other rear brake would , But with it on and riding the bike generally it just feels almost totally useless , It seems to me im experiencing all the probs of 2010 bikes that ive read about yet mines a 2012 , I,ll be ringing the dealer in morn to get him to pick it up yet again , and if he tells me like last time it wont be for 6 days I,ll be getting on to Ducati , I am heading for rant mode now I admit but its really starting to annoy me and for a 15 grand bike its a bloody disgrace

  12. What was wrong with your steering lock?

  13. Dave, I feel your pain. Mine's a 2012 too. So far it's had warranty work for noisy forks and rear brake (both at my insistence), the rear shock broke and had to be completely replaced at 2600 miles and when I got it back after that, the engine started cutting out the very next day so now they're replacing the side stand cut out sensor and the kill switch unit too.

  14. My gut feeling was the side stand cut out switch, First probs were cutting out when engaging gear from nuetral , However after a couple weeks it started cutting out while riding as well , now tonight the whole bike is electrically dead ! , Apart from annoying its also embarrasing on group ride outs when other guys on Jap bikes and BMW s stop to offer you assitance !

  15. Errr 350 quid ? Which dealer ?

  16. Sycamore at Uppingham

  17. Andy, have your dealer check their DSC online system re ignition unit recall, ref no. 815. It is incorporated within several other updates etc. Sycamore cant send me a copy for onward forwarding. Data Protection etec etc.

  18. Would Ducati contact owners about this or is it one you have to mention to them?

  19. Well I went in about a month ago to get my suspension ecu sorted. Warranty has now expired (gulp!) but dealer said when you come in for your yearly service - he's going to do the handsfree unit, switch gear and back brake...

  20. You would think that Ducati would draw it to their customers attention but I beleive it would be best if we the owners take a proactive approach. I say this because as a result of this recall I asked whether there was anything oustanding on the Diavel that I also own and learnt that there were a couple of recalls/ issues that I knew nothing about. I have the impression that unless the owner has a complaint matters are left until the bike is returned for a service.
