Hello all! newbie here :Shy: If my question has already been answered in another thread I apologize but here's the breakdown: Currently riding a 09' Dorso 750, and while I love the bike it has been in the service department for unknown service issues going on two months (even Piaggio is stumped- possible ecu/wiring harness/one of these guys>>:Walkingdead. The past two months have gotten me thinking into buying a used 2010 Hyper 1100 EVO SP for $8k with only 6,200 miles. I've been wearing my leathers around the house to keep myself from going crazy and am ready to go forth and buy it but wanted to get some feedback from other 1100 SP owners in terms of reliability, average maintenance costs, and anything else that comes to mind. Would greatly appreciate if anyone would let me know of things I should worry about? From what I've read, the air-cooled engines are very reliable and this model was one of the best built. Thanks gents!
I had an 1100evo (not the sp but theyre the same bike) Mine was perfect for 2 years - never gave me an issue. I would highly recommend a full system, velocity stacks and then a custom dyno map. They sound great, go even better. I sold mine to get a z1000 as I already have a supermoto project im in the middle of finishing but am very/probably going to get another 1100 (but an old one) and tear the lot to pieces and do a ground up rebuild - which would make it my third one!!
Thanks for the tip! Coincidentally, I originally set out to get a Z1000 to have a reliable Japanese motor, but the more I looked at the Hyper the Z became more and more of a fleeting thought (it's hard to walk away from the sound of an Italian twin!). Although I had the 06' and 07' ZX-6 and those bikes were damn near bulletproof. I did notice that the owner Hyper of the has Termis fitted although am not sure if it's a full system (only have one craigslist pic to go from until I meet with him). What year are you thinking of rebuilding?
probably a 2007/2008 1100s. The one thing ill be definitely doing is rewiring the whole lot....stumbled across this company.... motogadget - High Class Instruments & Accessories Which is a massive avenue for debt....for my ktm525 ive got the motoscope pro plus the m-unit and various other bits and pieces....im planning on putting this stuff onto the hyper...
My zed is really good, very pleased with it (2014 model). Its not even seen the dyno yet (just waiting for chris at CJS to say he's ready) its got a full system on it along with a K&N - the previous generation will see up to 30 bhp increase with a custom map....cant wait...
+100 on the motoscope pro, love the display! In terms of debt, I can already feel my stomach going into preservation mode as I feel food will no longer be a priority for a while...
The more knackered the better - If I can find one where the motor has been stripped of its paint...itll give me opportunity to get it back to the crank cases and recoat the motor in xylan, which is pretty well "everything proof" - which is my biggest issue with ducati....quality of fixings and finishes...
Brilliant. The rear is a bit hard but im looking at getting a nitron rear sport shock as im keeping it long term. Feels planted, but im not too impressed with the m7rr's so I may try something else when they wear out....here it is distorting the speaker on my phone..... Sorry - arrow race headers and Vance&Hines brawlers....which I think is like termi's to ducati's from what I read....
I have had 3 1100 hypers , 1 s model and 2 sp 's , there superb bikes if you like back lane scratching , loads of low down torque , wheelies all over the place . I prefer the sp as it has a little more suspension travel and the marrzocci front forks are so plush and soak up everything . Reliability has been great had no issues , I don't so big miles mind but there known to be a strong bike . Maintance is easy enough , there really easy to work on , if you are handy with spanners you could do it all yourself . If you like the Dorso you love the hyper , one of my friends had a 750 factory Dorso , I had a go of it a year or so ago , It rode well , nice riding position but it just felt under powered ,you had to really Rev it to get to the power , you don't need to that with the hyper just crack the throttle and you have loads of grunt instantly . My friend had issues with the Dorso also ... I think it started leaking water from the head gaskets and it was off the road for a while My first s Sp with underseat Zards My current one , single side Termi
Are you liking the z comfy ?? I only like vee twins now I'm converted ... do you miss the grunt at all , the Zeds do look funky the jap stuff do tend to need a bit of tweaking to get the best out of the suspension , but a good suspension set up always worth the dosh , how's the ktm coming along , not seen you over at the nut house much ....
Just looked at that vid , sounds loud as feck , and the parking spot is marked up with CF ..... is that for ComFy .... hehe
Loving the zed! however I will categorically say I miss the low end grunt of the hyper! however once the zed winds up (80+) it would leave the hyper standing, it just keeps pulling. The Ktm is slow going...im at the mercy of my mate who tends to do stuff in his own time plus I cant expect him to be there at my beck and call. So far: All the motogadget stuff is in. Its all been hash wired up to confirm all the switchgear works. It starts, it runs, all the hash wiring has been removed - he's created a new wiring diagram on autocad so I can fault find any issues but if there are the m unit will flash up the circuit that has the issue (if it ever were to do that). Right now he's building it back up, but, all of the stock oem wiring ie the cable from the back light to the loom has been cut away and replaced with weapons grade (yes, weapons grade) ptfe heat proof wire then put in braid and then heat shrinked and sealed at both ends - he's doing this for all of the wiring that plugs onto the new loom along with the new loom itself. He's a perfectionist (which ive got no problem with!) - hes back for 2 evenings this week...this is, the home straight....
That was in work (6am on a sunday morning) the only place I could really start it up with out annoying anyone! - however now the internals of the pipes have coated with carbon a bit its quietened down a little....not much but a little....
Just looked at that vid , sounds loud as feck , and the parking spot is marked up with CF ..... is that for ComFy .... hehe
Yep - we do lots of work for the MOD - he knows his stuff, when he builds the main section of the loom and some of it starts to get finalized ill take some photo's of it. Essentially there should be half the amount of the original wiring with loads more functionality....it helps as he's into bikes as well (he's got a special edition zzr1440)
Comfy - Shite, if I close my eyes and listen to that it wouldn't be hard to imagine I was in a GP paddock...great looking Z btw, love that orange/silver/black combo. lee - Thanks for the info and great looking bikes as well. It's a shame about the Dorso because it really is a great bike, but it has already shaken me up quite a bit. Mine keeps cutting off and going into limp mode at random intervals, caught me off guard once in the twisties mid corner(close one) and a few more times on the freeway doing about 80 being followed too close by cunty drivers. I've had both pressure sensors fixed, TPS adjusted and still nothing. Hopefully this deal with the SP comes through and I can share some photos with you gents soon.
