Ive got 3 bikes. 1994 ZXR750L2 which was my first "big" bike which I bought back in around 1997 I think and ive kept it ever since. Has too much sentimental value for me to ever sell as the amount of fun ive had on that bike was rediculous. I also remember it helped me pull my first proper GF too. Its been crashed 4 times and written off once but each time i rebuilt it and got it back on the road. Unfortunately it now needs restoring as its been sitting in corner of garage unused since about 2001. 1999 Yamaha R1 4XV. I sold my 2000 748S back in 2001 for £8k and was looking to buy an old banger Fireblade as at the time old models were going for about £1500. At that time I was using my bike for a daily 90mile commute and was just running them into the ground. To my surprise insurance companies wouldnt touch me on a fireblade, but would happily insure me on a nearly new R1 for next to nothing. So I immediately went out and bought a 2 year old R1. Total minter. I remember a few weeks later walking into Hein Gerrike to buy a £6 oil filter and walked out with a £1000 full titanium Akropovic exhaust system for it. I then modified the airbox, rejetted it, balanced all the carbs up and my god the bike was mental. So mental in fact that ive still got it and use it today. Several times ive thought about maybe getting something newer, but nothing out there really does it for me. On the roads it p!sses all over more modern bikes I come accross and having riden it for 14 years I know it inside out. Ive crashed it once, and also blew the gearbox sky high after too many 2nd gear wheelies. Its probably done 40k miles now, but the engine/gearbox has only done 5k after I swapped it to fix the broken gearbox. 2000 996 Bip. A couple of years back I had a bit of spare cash and decided I wanted another Ducati. The one I really wanted back in 2000 was the 996, especially after seeing Fast Bikes videos etc. I never really got on with my 748 for some reason, but figured id look out for a 996 and see if I could get on with one. My main criteria was that it had to be 2000 or newer as I wanted the 5 spoke wheels & grey frame the same as my old 748 had. I looked at a couple before coming across this one. Co-incidentally the number plate was only 1 digit different to my 748`s plate was it turned out it originated from the same Ducati dealer on the same day. I took that as a sign and bought it there & then. Since then Ive spent nearly as much as I paid for the bike on it again, not only replacing all the consumables like clutch, chain, sprokets, belts, shock, brakes, servicing etc, but also on modifying it, turning it into as close to a SPS as I can. So far I am very pleased with how the bikes turning out and im really enjoying tweaking it and seeing the positive results. I dont intend to ever sell it. Ive had various other bikes over the years up until I got the R1 but then just didnt see the need to get anything else. However one bike I would still like to get is an RGV250. Like others on here, I have fond memories of 2 strokes when I first got into bikes and at the time the RGV was the one to have. Unfortunately it was out of my price range back then, so I settled for an RD350. However, I do notice that RGV`s and similar are now going up in value so whether or not I will ever get one or not for "the right price", time will tell.
1. KTM 525 - ive always wanted a supermoto (I had a 660 a few years back) and lost it when I wrote off my mates r6 and had to sell it to then buy the r6 and repair it....(first and last il4 600 ill ever own) - absolutely awful. As I say its almost done... 2. z1000 - sold the hyper for this. Owning the hyper and the ktm were too close-a-bike to have and ktm isn't finished so I sold the hyper on...(starting to regret it though) although having said that the zed is brilliant, love it! 3. RSV4 factory - weapon of choice for long trips....(TT, Moto GP, bike nights) that kind of thing....owned this one the longest and cant see myself getting rid of it anytime soon and if I were...another, newer RSV4 or a panigale but seeing as either of those 2 are about 5k more than my factory is worth I don't think itll be happening anytime soon... Now, its sounds a bit "lad logic" but, ive got the 3 types of bike that I love. And for that reason I tend to not really look at other bikes from a buying or a wanting point of view...for me, when I owned the one bike....say my last but one hypermotard - I was on my way to the TT that year, getting blown about on the motorway and watching R1's, GSXr's flying past, riders hunkered down and thinking "one day ill have something WITH fairing!"...so I sell my hyper, get the RSV and then a year later on the mountain at the TT I happen to be riding with 4 lads on supermotos, caning the arses off of them and then thinking.....id love a supermoto!....so, rather than sell up I got one as well....and now for the naked option. And, on top of all of that I think I could say for most people with multiple bikes, when and if they do want something else, theyre not as desparate to sell up...am I right or no? Thought the thread could do with some pics.! - we all like pics...!
Just my 999. For a long time I ran a 907ie for some long comfy trips, or if I wanted a less manic ride. I loved it. But the the handndling bececame strange after about a decade. I had it looked at and no one could find out why. It became untrustworthy in corners and therefore only a matter of time before I crashed it, so I sold it with about 30'000 miles on it. It's a real pity. It had carbon zorsts that sounded the biz and you could put some luggage on it. People who knew little about bikes always admired it and thought that it would do about 200 mph. I have noticed that the more you ride Ducatis, the better they run, so it's not a good plan to have too many bikes if you can't ride them enough. I probably wouldn't ride two enough now.
2006 ZX10R 1998 Blackbird 2009 Aprilia Dorsoduro 750 No Ducati as yet... 1299 Panigale or Multistrada DVT planned in near future depending on whether her indoors is coming pillion riding again or not...watch this space!
In this company of Desmos, 1199's and more R specs than you could shake a soggy glove at I feel like a pauper with my 1198....
Awesome. It`s funny how things work out. I remember dealers really struggling to sell the red/white ones back when they first came out as everyone wanted a blue one like mine. I heard reports of dealers actually having old red/white ones which they couldnt shift resprayed blue in order to sell them. Now, the red/white ones are much rarer and apparently worth more!
Did you type that post out whilst riding the 907ie, by any chance? 2001 Ducati 750Sport ie - for commuting, poor weather, motorway mileage or if I don't want to have to plan a detailed route from one petrol station to the next. 2003 Ducati 999S Bip - do you have to ask? Both of these bikes are similar in concept, in that they are best suited to hooning around. Ergonomically they are very similar. Ideally, I'd have three bikes - I would like a Sport Tourer of some sort for taking on holidays. As it is, I'd have to get rid of one of these bikes to make room for a tourer and I seriously do not want to get rid of either of my beloved beasties.

At the moment 7 998 Bought new and used a bit for a few years and then a change of job saw me commuting by train. Done only just 4,000 miles from new. Still used when i can find the time though. 748SPS 1999 UK model and one of only twenty imported in the last year of sale for a total of just 100 in the three years they were sold in the UK. A late October model purchased from Moto Cinelli when new for what was then £12,250!. I have all the "extras" that came with the bike like stand, termis and yellow cover. I bought this to use it as a track bike but when I learnt that it was a very rare model I just completely rebuilt it and have probably only covered less than 400 miles since I got it in late 2008. Lovely bike to ride though and a very real world bike for the London area where I live. 748R engined 748S. A bit of a hybrid, I bought the 748S as a complete rolling chassis less engine and ECU but otherwise totally complete. I then got a crashed 2001 748R and swapped the engine etc. and rebuilt it as my road\track bike. Used it twice on track so far and hoping to do another one track day at least this year if time allows, I use this bike the most as it is the easiest to ride and a lot of fun. 2 RGV 250 K\L Track bikes, both ex racers. Currently one has just been rebuilt and needs painting and some new tyres and the other now requires a complete engine rebuild and the gearbox needs converting to the Moore Performance stronger gearset. RD 250 LC Yamaha, owned from new in 1982. I rebuilt it in the early 2000's and used it as a commuter until 2006 when a change of job stopped me commuting on it. Now needs a good clean up and some work doing to it. This bike has done everything from commuting to both short circuit and long distance production racing. It never broke down once in all that time and despite being thrashed but well looked after it has been the best £999 I have spent. I have definitely had the best value out of this bike and probably the most fun per mile. Gilera Runner SP50. I built this scooter for my son to ride and fitted a 70cc "big bore" kit to it along with "racing" clutch springs and rollers and uprated gearbox, larger carb and air filter. It was a ground up rebuild of a bike that had previously been a non runner and when finished it was treated to a Dyno session at the now defunct Road and Track Dyno and correctly jetted. It was amazingly quick for such a little bike and I took it back when my son no longer wanted it after he moved on to a restricted R6 at the time. Great little bike to ride but a bit loud due to the clutch take up. No intentions of buying another bike but could be tempted for 853 track bike as I have a spare engine and some nice cams and gas flowed heads that I could use in the build. I have also had three TZ250's that I used to race, which I wish I had now but when I packed in racing there was no point in keeping my last TZ. U had a TZ250 C to E spec. a TZ250G belonging to Kevin Clementson who was sadly later killed at Mallory on another TZ and a TZ250 K to L spec, the first of the early TZ powervalve models starting with the H.
2.Only stopped using my 916sps all year round after 5 years due to high running costs and purchased a Honda 650 deaville last year.Wondering if I have made a mistake now as after using the Honda for a while I jumped onto the duke and could hardly ride it for the first day. The Honda has sat there unused since and gone back to using the ducati for everything including commuting and fecking about round town.If I can raise the cash I wouldn't mind another KTM supermoto though probably a 690 smc.
4 at the moment, although 2 are scooters so probably don't count to the peeps on here . Recently moved house and sold a couple I didn't really want to, but something had to give 1098 Streetfighter S. I moved away from sports bikes a couple of years back after feeling broken after a day on my MV Agusta F4. This is the best bike I've ever had and can't see me selling it. Leaves me smiling every time. This is the default option for sunny days. Desmosedici RR. What can I say. I wanted one, so did it. Vespa GTS300. Wanted a commuter bike without high maintenance costs with tyres and chains etc. I had an interest in classic Vespas and Lambrettas and liked these. Used as a commuter and I've been all over Europe on it. Vespa Rally 200. Most people who buy a classic scooter go for a Lambretta. I wanted to be a little different and in my mind this is the Vespa to have. Used really for social events.
If we're include pedal bikes I also have a race light road bike and a very old but brilliant mountain bike. Mel has about four push bikes
