Yeah i struggle with diavel. Its a bit like Koenigsegg bringing out a camper van in the car line up.For me the scrambler is a old mans bike & the more ducati digress from pure sports bikes the more they water down the brand. If I was after something fun with 60 -70hp id opt for one of these any day over that scrambler.
If you've not ridden a Diavel, go and book a test ride. I had one for a bit whilst the 848 was in for a service. It's surprising to say the least. It makes a lot of sense riding it but I'd not own one. It simply isn't what I'd want from a bike. I would like to test ride a Scrambler and I could see myself with one but I wouldn't be up for all the clobber that you can get with it. It strikes me that a lot of it is made for those who don't have riding gear already or who want to tell everyone they have a Scrambler. The marketing of it has all been aimed at hipsters with new-age beards and chains with their wallets on so we're only commenting as we see it. Personal I only own 1 branded item (apart for the bike) which is a tshirt my wife bought me.
very few people buy shit because they don't like the look of it. lets face it at 7k it's not a throw away pair of trainers or phone even.
This is what I used to wear in my old moto x days.Scrambler riders had the flat caps and big brown boots. Then again looking back a lot of the 80's and 90's moto x stuff made you look like a shell suit wearing scouser.
I'm going here at the weekend... the Bike Shed - Cafe Racers, Street Trackers, Scramblers and Retro Custom Bikes. You'll be able to spot me as I'll probably be the only one without beard, tattoos and wallet on chain!
yip thats it. you need the biggest van the biggest generator. the bonniest pit flosie, the smallest pit bike and the noisiest drunk to fall out the back of the van. (thats me)
Maybe due to it being supplied to him for free and also part of a legaly binding contract as a factory rider to promote there products. I still say the more they digress from pure sports bikes the more they water down the brand. They could make ducati scooters, hyper 125,300 etc for younger riders, tourers and stuff like the scrambler. All good I guess if they want to grow the company but don't see much difference from companies like Honda or Yamaha now.I prefer the purer more simply days when the choice was a monster,st or superbike. If they stick to what they are good at and concentrate on less models then these will have less gremlins maybe than recent models like the multi 1200 which was a bad fucking joke when they first released it with all the faults.
Ducati were on their arse when Galuzzi's Monster concept was spotted by the French importer. So the choice was simple - diversify or die - and the simple fact is bikes like the Monster and Multi sell by the bucketload compared to the sportsbikes. And that diversification allows them to pump more time and money into the sportsbikes. Would you honestly rather they didn't do that..?
Yes I think they are making that many different bikes surely they cannot focus on each model so much as they are still a small company compared to Jap manufacturers like Yam and Honda.Hense some of the shite they have released lately that seems to spend more time back at the dealers with faults than being ridden. I don't see companies like Koenigsegg or Rolex diversifying.Quite the opposite. If what you put out for sale is the best then people will buy it.
I'll sum it up in a word that any Londoners will immediately get... The bike & clobber are typical 'Shoreditch'.
I think Ducati should go back to their roots... scrap all the bikes and start building bits for radios again.
Ducati are a business. It's very romantic (and its marketed) to think of them as an organisation built on passion for sports bikes but I'm willing to bet they've made more money out of the Scrambler and Multistrada over the last 6 months than they will out of the 1299 over the next 2 years. They've done the right thing in spotting a trend in the market and building the scramblers. As sports bike riders it may send shivers down our spines but the profit from the Scrambler will allow Ducati to invest in further on the top end of their product range again. I'm all for it. I'm also all for taking the piss out of people like this who buy it because it fits their image
