Best Quality Carbon Fibre Products ?

Discussion in 'Ducati General Discussion' started by Staffie, May 22, 2015.

  1. I am looking for a carbon fibre front mudguard for my 848 evo and was wondering which are the best quality.

I had been looking for a second hand genuine Ducati part but was wondering if any of the aftermarket parts were as good ?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

  2. CDT or MS Productions. Both good quality and fit. Plenty of other makes available but you get what you pay for so choose carefully.

  3. carbon moto in sheffield very very good.

  4. Just to keep the thread occupied with numerous different names I'll offer Conquest Carbon. I used to buy DP but now use them. There's a forum discount too.

  5. Carbon king for me..
Excellent quality and not to bad a price!

  6. CM Composit

  7. I sell carbon fibre on eBay as a part-time job to top up my miserable wage slave government salary. I ship it from China mostly. Based on my experiences selling the stuff and my visit there (and the orders I see and hear them talk about), I do not believe any of the high end carbon brands are averse to buying their stuff from the places I buy from. Saw a lot of Ktm "oem" stuff being made last time I was there. I actually wonder if about 95% of world carbon fibre products are made in China. I know that some of the people mentioned above get their stuff from the same places I do because they sometimes photo the back of the product for their web shops, showing the same factory production stickers that I get on my shipments.

Some are a bit thicker, and not everyone likes that. Some only use metal moulds but with non-metal moulds I cannot tell the difference. One of the suppliers can be a bit sloppy in the weave joins but you need to look closely to see. And they gladly send us replacements when we spot one

Just my opinion and I am not that experienced, having only been trading it for a few months now. Though each supplier has a slight different strength, I am happy with all of them. Talks with UK manufacturers have so far come to nothing. One of them did not even reply to me or take my calls. One told me to come back when I had big orders. . Perhaps I am too small, perhaps they are too busy, perhaps the Chinese are hungrier because they seem to take orders from the bike manufacturers and little old me.

  8. Any decent carbon should be made from Unidirectional cloth laid at alternate angles using different weights for various products i.e. 90gsm, 100gsm, 150gsm and so on.

The finish as in plain or twill weave is only the aesthetic finish to a product. This is way too expensive to be fair unless you have a GP team as your buyer, so they all make using plain or twill, which is more bendy than rigid. Ok for a hugger I guess.

90% of Carbon is from China now, imported and sold. However, they are "mostly" made from fibreglass within the core, using the same weave pattern, plain or twill, and an epoxy/polyester pigment (i.e.black) and the final top layer in Carbon. Impossible to tell the difference. Real carbon at even 0.25mm should be rigid if manufactured correctly. Also, all mount holes should be Kevlar reinforced as Carbon loves stress cracking!

You have to decide what you want, if its a front mudguard you are after, then Carbon Moto use the same weave/pitch is the same as Ducati Dream, who make all DP Carbon parts. But for me...CM Composit, these are the real boys.

  9. On sale but take into account shipping costs and import duties if customs get it and a nice extra handling charge from Parcelforce.Never dealt with the company but maybe others have on this forum.

CF Front Fender: 1098/848: Ducati Performance

One exception would be airbox.Ive seen and fitted loads to my bike and these are by far the best quality and fit.

  10. Nearly all the CF on my bike is DP stuff. I wouldn't go as far to say it's the best but up there with them. The DP stuff is mostly a perfect fit but lacks the deep shine due to less lacquer used. Power bronze make excellent front and rear guards.

  11. Hi Everyone,

Just wanted to say thanks for all the input, it's really helpful.

I'll have a look at the different recommendations and get shopping !

  12. Has any used fullsix carbon fiber? I know there expensive, but have never seen or heard anyone using a part from them.

  13. It's all KIY carbon or OYA carbon, both from China

  14. Is it possible to make the DP stuff glossier? Is all it needs is a coat or two of lacquer?

  15. Use 800g grit paper and sand down, and re-laquer. The reason it is not as glossy is because it has had all the resin driven out of it. The less resin and laquer, the stronger the fibre strength

    • Thanks Thanks x 1
  16. Looks like just about all the bases got covered above. If you are inspecting before you buy it's worth carefully examining the mounting holes ( mentioned above) externally and internally as its the attention to detail here that makes a difference.

  17. "Carbon Dry" is another one.
Probably the nicest carbon parts I have used.
    Not cheap though.

  18. Didn't used to be called Fullsix when they started and for the life of me I cannot think of what they used to be called. They are from Slovenia and it was 3 initials. I have several bits of their stuff on my Multistrada and am very pleased with the quality. Moto Rapido use their kit and I have seen a lot of the parts they make for the Panagale up close and IMO it really is top quality. I am sure the odd bit will get through quality control eventually as it is inevitable but not seen or heard of any yet. Andy

  19. Try Steve at Conquest Carbon or Gary at Carbon Trader. Both are official importers for CDT who are based in Slovenia. I have bought extensively from both these companies. CDT's products are not without the odd fault here and there. All rectified, but aside from CM Composit, these are as good as money can buy you right now. No single part is ever perfect. The ONLY exception are Lieb Speed in Germany whose parts are as close to perfection as you can get. Peter Lieb makes a very limited range of parts, but what he does produce is art. The rest is just that, the rest. If you want to see which parts I used, take a look here:
