Hi Guys, So my beloved 848 is going and I'm picking up my new multi this week, and was wondering if anyone can offer advice on Bluetooth systems. I'm keen to use satnav and maybe even talk to the wife from time to time. Ease of use, sound quality and reliability are more important than cost. Any ideas?
Run a set of Interphone F5MC's (for me 7 Doris). Had the 3's and these are alot better in sound quality and have a built in FM radio to. Sync via Bluetooth to my HTC phone as well without problems and the voice menu is a good feature. Updating the firmware is easy peesy too.
+1 for Sena, I have the smh10r which has a more discreet look, battery life not as good as the 10. Quite liking the look of the 10c which has a camera built in, either way Sena are pretty good.
Sena 20S okay as long as the FM radio is not a priority. It's poor. If you do go the Sena 20 S way make sure you get one with a serial number beginning 150. Better radio but still not perfect. Pairs to iPhone and Garmin Zumo no problem at all. Bought it on strength of it allegedly being able to pair with other makes (my mate has a Cardo Scala Rider). Won't have any of it so don't believe that bit of blurb.
sena 20S here & works a treat, voice activated answering of phone & commands. Radio is naff but link it too your sat-nav & phone...etc Plus you can communicate with other brands of intercoms (as long as they bluetooth)
I use a scala G9 which is great, intercom, radio, Bluetooth music, lots of functions. Me and a mate both had Sena SMH10 and after a heavy rainstorm they both packed in within a day of each other, which in this country is no good.
My Sena 10 failed in persistent rain when I was charging it on the move, I stripped it down, dried it out, put it back together and it has been fine ever since, make sure the rubber flap over the charging port is closed.
All was as manufacturers instructions, just wasn't up to the task of dealing with rain, other than that it was a great headset. We both got a full refund and bought the scalas instead which have been faultless in all conditions for the last 3 years.
I use this system too (F5). Me and the wife on separate bikes. Chose this system on the recommendation of chain speed who said it was the most advanced blue tooth system at present. Brilliant sound quality, guaranteed waterproof, easy to understand verbal instruction. Only issue at the mo is background interference. Inter phone say they never heard it before (we have what sound like tigers growling in our helmets when not speaking) and have given us solutions to try to minimise it. It worked on wife's helmet but mine was just as bad. Got another fix to try next time out. I'm sure we will get it right. The sound quality and range are superb - apart from the bloody tigers! Having said that there will be a fix and I would recommend it. Be interested to know if you have similar issues although I suspect if we were both on the same bike it wouldn't be as annoying.
I get a similar interference on mine, turns out it's the mike picking up the sound of my mates engine when not talking to each other but the intercom is active, wonder if yours is a similar thing?
F5MC's for me. Me and three mates bought one each on Friday. They all hook up easily and work brilliantly. Got nearly 11 hours of use out of it before it needed charging which I thought was good.
Scala's for me. Not the easiest things to use and they are a little temprimental but full duplex chat with three others. Linked to my sat nav which links to phone, so I have music too. But they have issues at times and aren't the most user friendly but once ur use to them they work well.
Doris had a very odd chirping noise in her F5 unit, mine was fine. It lasted a few days then went! May be it was picking up some stuff from a radar dome or something. Was near a few RAF/USAF sites.
Definitely growling tigers or what sound like pigs feeding at a trough! Wife said she heard birds tweeting too. It definitely is engine noise which seems to get worse as the ride prolongs. It stops when we have the engines stopped so the connection is there no doubt about it. Interphone said to disconnect the pairing then reconnect which we did. It sorted the wife's out but I can still hear the Tigers. I have now added some foam over the Mic. Hopefully this will help on our next trip. Music will also help when I get around to connecting it. Chainspeed suggest changing the helmet setting to jet as it's less sensitive to background noise. Hope those options are of some help. As I said when it's Sussed out fully the system will be brilliant.
