1098 Intermittent Headlights, Indicators & Dash Idiot Lights Loss?

Discussion in '848 / 1098 / 1198' started by THJ, May 24, 2015.

  1. I've got intermittent complete loss of my 1098s tricoloure headlights, indicators, rear light etc & idiot lights on the dash - full beam/neutral/indicator etc (the rest of the dash works fine - digits & revs)

As soon as I turn bike off and back on the headlights, indicators, rear lights etc & idiot led's all work fine again, but then randomly die while on a ride only to magically start working again randomly later on the journey.

I presume it will be a short in the circuit somewhere or dodgy fuse connection, so will try those tests tomorrow.

If anyone else has had this fault and can point me in direction of their solution it will save me a bit of time testing the whole electrical system for gremlins!

    Thanks

  2. sounds like it could be the regulator / rectifier. try getting a multi meter across the terminals to check voltage. mine went a while ago and when i traced the cable from the R/R back towards the stator, i found the connector burned out.

  3. I just had the exact same thing on my 1198, turned out to be the r/r.

  4. Been there, done that, got the T-Shirt!

    Reg/Rec sorted it for me.

  5. If it is then you may want to go this route. God knows how many times I've posted this

  6. Thanks for info... I've done a quick search for the mosfet regulator, but can't find a UK stockist? Can someone point me to a supplier?

  7. Look on eBay. I think the triumph one is compatible, as are others. You'll need the link cable as well.

  8. Unless my PC is playing silly games in only finding mosfet from USA/China sellers? Hoping to find one from UK seller so I can get it fitted to bike ASAP.

  9. Just type in triumph d675 regulator. Just had a look and there are a few. See if you can get one with the link cable. But these are only about £6 or something from Ducati.

  10. to presee Katos excellent post in the link above

Parts Needed for a direct swap
    Shindengen FH020AA or FH012A0
Triumph link lead part number T2500676

  11. Ebay is your best source. Kawasaki, Yamaha, Triumph and Ducati all use the MOSFET type Reg/Rec. Just search 'manufacturer' Regulator Rectifier. Trawl through for the cheapest. I dropped on a Triumph one with the wiring loom for £12. Second hand would be best unless you take a punt on the £21 Chinese ones.

    This would fit the bill
    KAWASAKI ZX10R ZX10-R D6F/D7F NINJA ORIGINAL REGULATOR RECTIFIER 2006-2007 | eBay

  13. and that is the problem as there isn't a UK stockist at present despite many of the latest UK bikes using Shindengen FH020AA or similar. I have bought from breakers before but new seems only available from US or abroad.

  14. Got the mosfet regulator from Yamaha breaker. All fitted and bike works fine :)

    Thanks for info & advice.
