749 749 Red Fairings On A Dark?

  1. Hi all,

    Just removed the fairings on my 749 dark and I've got some scratches on the bottom side that aren't normally visible. The unusual thing is that the matt black has scatched off to reveal red?

    Does anyone know if the origional plastic was red or have a got some resprayed red fairings or worse a write-off?

  2. Hi Rob,
    I got a dark '54 and the paint rubbed off fairing by side stand, but light grey I got. In work at mo' but i'll check tomorrow.

  3. I agree with grimmy66,dark panels are grey under the paint...red ones are pinky/red.

  4. Parts bin engineering. I have had OEM red fairings that have yellow underneath and yellow fairings that have been red underneath. If they ran short of a particular colour, they just took another fairing and resprayed it over whatever colour it was. I wouldn't worry. Andy

  5. If your bike originally had red fairings, it would have a steering damper. The "Dark" model doesn't have it.

  6. Interesting, the Ducati parts list for the 749 Dark clearly shows a steering damper. If I was clever I'd be able to reproduce the page but I'm not, so I can't. Andy

  7. The Dark does not have a steering damper and AFAIK it doesn't even have a mount for it on the frame.

  8. Thanks all, especially Android. Makes sense I suppose to use what you got! Makes me feel better that I havent got a replaced part on a crashed bike.
