Is this an opinion or do you know that Ducati is working on this? I need to ask the same question about the throttle lag as I too noticed it during a test ride, even with DWC at level 2. (Sorry, I'll ask that part again on the other thread)
I was being sarcastic. If you've just spent the thick end of £18k why the fuck should you have to mess around trying to fix something yourself? It's a design flaw so Ducati need to resolve it. No strengthening it with metal, no reinforcing it etc...
Simple solution surely, don't remove a loaded pannier? Empty pannier and then remove it. Less likely to twist and no weight pulling down. I do that on mine as I don't believe it to the the strongest design but defiantly easy.
There's always a way round a bad design but it should be designed correctly in the first place. Or, arrive at destination in the rain. Unload panniers. Remove panniers from bike. Reload panniers to carry in to house / hotel, and that assumes you use pannier liners (I do). Spot the flaw. P&H have raised a warranty claim so let's see how that goes.
I picked my new MTS S up at the weekend with panniers and back box included. The guy at the store was about to demonstrate how the panniers were taken off when I gently squeezed his arm and whispered to him "you are aware it very likely might snap aren't you?". The look on his face was priceless but to be fair he'd never heard of the problem. He gingerly took it off and then back on - lug in tact. I have to say the design looks flimsy to say the least. I would not fancy carting them through a packed hotel lobby. Not much chance of lugs remaining in tact. Here is another issue that I know has been aired before. The panniers will have to stay on the bike when we go touring. I won't chance them on and off the bike fully loaded. I should be confident enough to do so but I'm not so they stay on bike. I ordered the Ducati liners with the bike. They are really well made - good quality. Expensive but good quality. Unfortunately the quality equals bulk. Lay the top and side pannier liners on top of each other and the volume is equivalent to two pairs of jeans and a weeks worth of t- shirts! In effect that makes the liners too bulky for a two week tour. Space is always at a premium so it's a no go. They'd be great for a weekend or week tour but a luxury too far for serious long haul two up. So now we have a problem. Panniers are too flimsy to haul on and off with confidence. Liners add far too much bulk. Looking like black bin liners - not he best solution unless someone has a better idea?
. Haha well I did suggest only bikini bottoms on the pillion seat but it didn't get a good reception!

Just a quick update. I've had the panniers off and on the bike about three times now. Although I'm still not convinced they won't snap the fixing they have become much easier to fit. A combination of my own tact and pretty sure they are fitting better if that makes sense. As I said not sure I would be confident if fully laiden but to date a bit better.
My dealer told me to spray some silicone on the fittings both on bike and panniers as they will be a bit tight to begin with. Not had them out the box yet though.
I use EagleCreek cubes - a combination of a full cube for jeans/walking trousers, half cubes for t-shirts/shirts, a clean/dirty half cube for jocks/socks, and quarter cubes for electrical bits (chargers/leads etc.). I can get a full cube and 4 half cubes in the left hand pannier liner. I know that the liner and cubes take up space but they help me keep kit organised and speed up packing. I even use them inside suitcases. I also have a quarter cube in my tank bag for visor cleaning kit, ear plugs etc. I've not tried some of the their other/newer ranges of products.
I use the cubes inside a Ducati pannier liner but you could the cubes directly inside a pannier if your wanted. Regarding water-tightness; I've found the panniers keep dry on the inside. The liners are shower proof, so keep the contents dry between opening the pannier and getting into the hotel (or tent). The cubes are not water proof, and just help with organisation of contents. There are a few 3rd party pannier liners available; cheaper copies of the Ducati liners and a set from the US which fit better in the right hand pannier (exhaust side).
I'm still not having much trouble taking off the panniers from the bike - ok they are empty but with care no issues. Re the liners - I had a rethink after fitting them inside the pannier loaded with tea-towels and know what? They do fit very snug inside the pannier. I know that is what they are designed to do but they do actually manage to fit wall to wall. The next experiment will be to fit the clothing we are taking on holiday with us inside and see how much ballast we need to get shut of. But yes, liners are good quality and fit very well with rather awkward looking pannier shape - especially the exhaust side. I think possibly that I would also be able to put some shoes or wet gear laid in the "lid" part before closing too!
My mate has a 2010 bike, and swears by these: PANNIER LINER BAGS INNER BAGS LUGGAGE BAGS FOR DUCATI MULTISTRADA 1200 | eBay I borrowed them and they fit the DVT panniers pretty snugly, are lightweight, and fold flat when not in use. Not shaped to fit the lh pannier, but that's where my trainers will fit. I'm going to order a set. Liners, not trainers..
Is it only me or the panniers doesn't have any support underneath from the bike ? It seems like it just hooks on with two plastic hooks ? Are they suppose to mount else where too ? Am I missing a part ? They can't be that bad ! I have been taking them on and off many times didn't break at all. But I am just too worried that they will snap off during the motorway. So is anyone got any underneath support ? The panniers seems like moving far too much !
Are u missing the rubber mount on the rear pegs, mine are quite solid with those fitted, no "play" at all n nice n rigid
