1199 1199 Race Seat Or Comfort Seat

Discussion in 'Panigale' started by JAM35, May 10, 2015.

  1. Hi guys. I know this has been discussed before but am after some recommendations. I have recently got a 1199 and joined the forum. Loving the bike but as some experience not getting on with the angle of the standard seat. From reading posts apparently a race seat or comfort seat sorts this out. Which is better or is it just a personal thing. Are the seats just thicker nearer the tank end therefore making the seat flatter? Thanks for any advice.
    Cheers james

  2. Thicker at the front end by about an inch or more, no more nut cracking on heavy breaking.
Race has more of a grip to it but the comfort looks a lot better IMO.

Depends if you going to track it or not ? They both have the exact same profile and coming from a standard 1199 seat your probably find the comfort feels like a race seat.

I went for the comfort if that helps .

  3. Cheers for the info. Where did you get your comfort seat from? Ducati main dealer? Cheers

  4. i got the racs seat. no more sliding forward

  5.
  6. Also have the race seat - comfort better than standard and no more sliding.

  7. I'm gonna get a comfort seat next week when I pick my bike up from the dealer i think you get 10% off if your a ducati owners club member of some description

    So something like 159 - 10% ...

    ;)

  8. Just the same issue I had when I bought my 1199 tri.... the standard seat is probably best left to hanging off antics on the track. I was lent a Race seat while the Comfort seat was on order. My only observations were that there was a slightly softer foam in the Comfort seat, but hardly noticeable really. I weigh a tad under 14 Stone (still use old money) and although the Comfort seat has a bit of 'give', it isn't much. Put another way, if you think it will be all soft and squidgy, you are in for a disappointment. Once under way with a bit of wind-blast to lean on, you can get through a day on it, but like a racing-cyclist, you have to innure yourself to the feel. The biggest difference is the profile, with the Race/Comfort pair sharing a raised and anatomically profiled design in comparison to the slippery, flat O.E pad fitted as standard. My own thoughts are to tinker with the O.E seat material, keep the lower, crunched up stance but gain a bit of 'give' by altering the pad material.

  9. I found the standard 1199 seat unsuitable for track use. Under hard braking it offers zero support as it's quiet thin at the tank end & causes me to me slide right onto the tank as it's so frictionless. Unhelpful, as it means extra work for my arms to resist the forward forces. The race seat is thicker, noticeably at the front, and is covered with better friction material. Overall, excellent for the track but if you can only just touch the floor with the standard seat, you'll be in trouble with the race seat.

Try the 1299 seat. My mate can just get his feel on the floor, so the thicker race seat wasn't an option. But it looks like Ducati refined the design with the 899, but especially the 1299 seat. Still thin but much rippier.

  10. 899/1299 seats are identical. Have one ready to go on my 1199 shortly.

  11. I have DP comfy seat think I might go back to standard seat as I feel like I am on top of the bike and not in it :(

  12. Thanks for all your comments. Enjoying riding the bike and getting used to it. Will see if any seats come up on auction sites and check out different coverings to the standard seat. Thanks again.

  13. Bought comfort seat .. Makes my wrists ache .. Might get a race seat .. ;)

  14. had the comfort seat on mine for over 2 years now , no sliding at all, seat takes a little bit getting used to because of the height but once your used to it then its fine, as for guys saying they have sore wrists because of the seat, ive never had sore wrists or shoulders and as i said ive been using the comfort seat for over 2 years :)

  15. Out of curiosity how tall are you ?

  16. Tank grips make a big difference to riding comfort and take loads of weight off your wrists with the Panigale. I guess some people dont want them stuck to the tank but they are essential if you are going on track as the bike is so sensitive to input that you dont want to be sliding around at critical moments. The race seat is much better than the rubbish stock one as it is thicker at the front but tank pads make an even bigger difference.

  17. The problem I have is the comfort seat raises my ride height and if the race seat is thicker than std that will two, its not affecting my wrists but it does my lower back, first time in years I have had a problem riding sports bikes, I got on fine with the 899 and I thought the 1199 would be the same but apparently the rake is 15mm difference.
However my 848 Evo does not cause me a problem so that will get used more often till I sort out the riding position.
After looking around the 1199 there doesnt seem to be any way to adjust the bars either up or down or even pushing them out further :(

  18. i got tank grips .. im 6ft'4 ... maybe i ride like a spacker.. :) .. Wrists only hurt when im really giving it some... i cant seem to keep back in the seat.. always end up forward near the tank.. i do like the comfort though.. prefer it over the stock seat...

  19. get a 1299 seat my little cupid, its in the middle :upyeah:
