999 999 Single Sided Swingarm Options

  1. Thinking of a single sided swingarm for project 999 as I don't like the grey one and the black one's seem a tad pricey at the moment.
Thinking of either an extended 748 one or one from a hypermotard. Anyone know if they'd be straight swaps or would need modding like the 848 ones?

  2. You can't use a standard 748/916 series single sided swinger on the 999 frame because of all the shock mount differences. You end up with a shock that has such a short travel you will bottom it out. While there are shock manufacturers who will make you a custom shock that short, I wouldn't like to ride it in a spirited fashion for risk of it locking out. You could modify the old swingarm but then you are into expensive customising. I tried this on my project 999 and eventually went back to a stock 999 swinger for now. Of course you have to change all manner of other stuff too including wheels if you go single sided so it soon gets to be a really expensive change. Whether you could get a 1098 to fit and work I don't know. After a lot of money trying to make a 916 style single sided work for my 999 frame I cut my losses!

  3. There's a guy called ZetaTre on ducati.ms that did it recently. Go look at his build thread.

Iirc the shock wouldn't sit vertical as the 999 rocker upper shock mount didn't line up with sssa lower shock mount, they were offset. He got it sorted by having stuff made.

Didn't know or remember the length issues that HD just mentioned, interesting.

Funny as a user from the UK (JamesRJ) posted on that other forum about doing this on a 749 frame.

Other than the look I can't see why anyone would want to do this conversion. The 999 arms (grey or black) weigh less than a BST carbon fibre sssa which itself weighs around 50% less than the 1x98 sssa.

    I don't get it.
