Well, had a sprited ride home today....been further over to the edge....a few mm to go....definately better but not a patch on the sc's but then they will last longer....horses for courses....
Well, it was a warm day today....rode home, if anyone knows bristol, down the m32, left at st pauls, head across the big lawrence hill roundabout, to those of you that dont know it, a massive roundabout with good tarmac, and as you go over almost racetrack like....anyway, leant over both ways and absolutely not on full throttle but starting to feed the power in on exit i can feel the rear giving out on both sides....now am i expecting too much from the tyre? Or too much from the rear of my zed?...the zeds rear is quite hard and not adjustable....although i will be rectifying that next year with a top end nitron shock....just to add that the ride is achres better, im a few mm from the edge of the tyre, and the general feel is all good From saturday onwards for 5 days im on the rsv4 with fresh supercorsas at the tt, so i should be able to chuck that around a bit... As ive stressed before its not a complaint but more of a comparison....from everything id read i was expecting these tyres to be close, but, to me they seem quite far apart...but having said all the above theyre night and day bikes...
Well, yes, i agree but....but if and when i change the rear shock and if it does rectify it ill be really surprised, happy, and surprised....
Last year nitron were at the tt and offering discounts....i may risk the wrath of the wife and take it on the chin if i can get a good price drop....
If the rear can't squat the only suspension left is the tyre. If yiu are overwelming it, maybe thats what is happening? Spunds like a google search to me, as others (especially if used on track) will have found the same. Or could be tyre construction, I know Dunlops move a lot, feels like its letting go but its not, its simply making the contact patch larger. Or could be a duff tyre lol
Could be...to all of those....ill have to justify it with a new shock....having said everything i said if if get long life out of it then id be happy with that also.....ive never had more than 3k out of a rear tyre ever...and i expect the sc's to be fucked by 1.5k at the most....which is how long the last pair lasted...ironically i was just reading the performance tyre test in this months pb and they stated that youd comfortably get 3k or more out of a set of sc's....dunno what planet theyre living on....or if they did they were driving a van round with the bike in the back...
I have the PR3's on my streetfighter covered 4,500 miles and still have loads of tread left but, I have notice since going past 3,000 miles they don't feel as stable any more. so I have a set of M7rr just fitted to the SF still waiting to get bike back so can try them out, have heard from so many riders that they are really good fingers crossed eh.
MY rear SC's has just given out, 3,000 miles on the clock and had a little life in them still but it went on the dyno Tuesday that was the end of the tyre. All going well and weather permitting will be picking up my 1199 tomorrow with custom ECU map
Bloody hell....must be me....the rear was shot by 1.5k and the front was gone a couple of hundred before that, especially the front side walls....
Your obviously riding it to hard lol but saying that most of my riding has been in only luke warm weather so tyres have never got really warmed up
My last M77 rear went to just under 4000 miles. But a lot of those were cold weather miles not giving it the full beans. This rear is nearly halfway at 1000 miles but I expect to get to 2500. Unless you fit a staid sports touring tyre and ride the bike accordingly I don't think you can really complain about that. The last one was pretty bald when it came off but I never felt that grip or stability had deteriorated as the tyre wore. I was as confident in the tyre at the end as I was at the start. The ride was obviously less plush at the finish and the bike turned a little slower because the profile was blunted but it felt no less capable. No slips or squirrelling and (maybe because) they are also remarkably resistant to squaring off.
Tyre life 848 SC 1200-1500 miles front totally worn out, rear a few hundred more but bin anyway; BT16s 3k the pair Multi std scorpions 3500 miles, PR4s 4500 rear and front just needs replacing 8k
Looks like everyone is different....as i say a regular set of tyres...for me 3k ish...no more.....dunno how other people see it but for me, as soon as it hits the wear marker theyre off...
Just hit 3k on the 848 evo that has Battleaxes 16s on it might get a couple more miles out of it yet but mileage is not set in stone, bike had 900 miles on the clock when I picked it up and had the the tyres on it already but not sure how many miles it had done.
I ve just just put these on mine ran PP3 before and I have to agree with alecr ,turn in is quicker I was a bit surprised ,warm up much better than the PP3s which took a while and felt abit solid until warm ,I must say more feel which had given me more confidence top tyre running 32 front 34 rear
While mine are better with less pressure in them, they still give out (but that could be the rear shock on the zed as it's known to be shit, and it is). Even when warmed up they're nowhere near as good as the sc's. Ironically ill be trying Michelin next, never tried those before...
I agree with you, I am finding that they don't really give out under stress but tend to wander quite a bit, I have a lovely sweeping corner that I use to see what the rear tyre can do, it's uphill and three figures can be used with ease and is some 3/4 mile long. I feel the rear wanders and creates a wallowing action but does not upset the bike in any way, I have full ohlins TTx and the suspension is spot on so it is the new M7RR that cause this, last year I rode on Bridgestone S20R evo and these did not wallow. The front is very stable though.
Well, the phrase "Giving out" and "Wandering" I would put into the same category....pressures? 31 on the front and 33 rear....but I may give those a shot....the only problem I can forsee is the tyre starting to loose structural integrity with the less air in there....the only thing that would make me buy them again at this point is the wear...if they last a long time, +3.5k then I may get some more....
