Agree, its made of a solid old piece of chromed steel as well. Have a look at a modern Alfa, their grill is thin plastic like somehting out of toys R us. I used to have a 156 and it was the grill that finally made me decide to sell it.
Just googled it up when you said 6 cylinder, the Merlin and Meteor were V 12s Straight 6 is more likely to be a C series engine. Was it a Diesel?
Looks like FreddyFiles in Ninove? Nice bug. I sold my '66 and my '53 last year and now just have the Bay Combined age... 134. by Ian Cleary, on Flickr 547580_10150986664498885_1770962933_n by Ian Cleary, on Flickr
Need to check but both Meteor and Merlin were around 27 litres if I have it right So if it was 1/2 A meteor it would stilll be one helluva an engine and not unfeasible, if there were a surplus of them lying around after the war. C types were diesels.
Mk3 5.3 v12 that pic was the day it was sold. There was not a lot left from the top of the sill down when I first got my hands on it.
I've had a Mk2 Triumph Spitfire, a Vauxhall Magnum 1800, a Volvo P1800 and several Minis, as well as two kit-cars - a Mini / Metro based Midas Gold, and a (mainly) Ford based Magic. Currently have a 1972 Mini 850. Top tip - don't expect a classic of any kind to be as easy to live with as a modern car, or as cheap to look after - or as reliable... But hey, that's all part of the fun - a bit like owning an Italian bike really
had Viva HB, Hillman Hunter, MK2 escort, TR7, Chevy Camero Berlinetta, Firebird TA (kitt style) currently trying to sell the 750 sport so I can get a Mustang as getting trouble with neck after accident. did consider kit car ( Robin Hood, Caterham etc but not for long journeys. me ex neighbour has Frazer Nash Exeter (2 seat tourer) ,Nash racer VSCC racer and Beck Power plus hill climber have worked on all 3 with him.
The first two cars I ever restored were mk4 1971 and 1973 triumph spitfires. The other year I built a dolly sprint engine to broadspeed spec for a TR7 to race in cscc future classics. Went well making 243hp at the rear wheels.
