Prob A Dumb Question But I Will Ask Anyway

  1. Something I've always wanted to know.. Why is it Ducati's etc with aftermarket pipes and end cans have to remove them for the MOT on noise levels etc..and yet most Harley's I've seen have straight through pipes eg no silencers.. I mean some of those pass by my house and the sound makes the place shake.. I'm guessing it's something to do with the levels being set at the manufacture stage.. But then why not Harley's too..

  2. Yeh and Harley are so slow it takes them ages to pass by so the noise lasts for ages

  3. Think if your in the Harley club they seem to have designated places to take them for an MOT "where the tester is deaf".
I used to change my pipes for the MOT every year until the tester said don't worry I will just put it down as an advisory if you leave the Termis on, happy days :)

  4. Don't the Ducati fraternity too? :Wideyed:

  5. Had no problems with the mot last year with termi slipons. Spoke to the tester before taking the bike in and he told me he wouldn't fail it for the slipons. Since then, I've fitted the full system and don't have the db killers. The bike is quite a bit louder and don't honestly know if it'll pass this year.

  6. I asked that question when I was about to get a fine for no baffles on my cbr not long after I passed my test and he couldn't answer it. Let me off with a warning in the end!
Tester didn't even mention the termis on my 848 when I took it for mot and I have no inserts to put in.

  7. Just had the Exige MOT'd the other week, he said the left hand indicator seemed intermitant, but he said sod it, they're supposed to be anyway so passed it with an advisory :D

  8. Got a full Termi system on my 1098s and never failed an MOT yet. All i do is put the DB killers in and cover the "Not For Road Use" stamps with duct tape. Can't see any reason why anyone would change the whole exhaust for an MOT.

  9. I must have been born with a kick me sign over my bonce then... I've been done by the piggies at a bike meet, where they started of by saying "that's a beautiful Ducati, please let me hear it run" where I was given a ticket for race pipes and no baffled.. MOT guy failed it so I had to take it back with standard pipes indicators and full size plate on.. Only to get my pass and instantly remove it all...

So you can't tell me the piglets wouldn't pull over a bunch of hogs for excessive decibels, No? Must be a case for Ducati discrimination there surely..

  10. Are you proposing a spin off thread Exige ?, the where do you get your bike MOT'd thread, lol :p

  11. We should have a friendly MOT thread but the authorities would get hold of it so best by word of mouth :Bag:
But we should have an independent Ducati service specialist list / review instead of just the main stealers :Finger:

  12. I take my Ducatis to an Italian run garage.
I NEVER have a problem with mots.

They were very upset when I took in the cx500....not what they wanted at all!

  13. Blimey........do some people on here have old bikes? ;)

  14. Surely it's down to the discrection of the tester as there is no noise db limit set out in the MOT guidleines and ive never seen a db meter used at any MOT?

  15. or by any law enforcer just discretion

  16. It's not the noise you get done for. Aftermarket exhausts mostly don't have e marks or are marked not for Road Use. That's what's illegal

  17. IIIC there isn't a noise limit/test on a bike MOT. I looked into this a few years ago when some greeneyed turd of a tester fucked me about. I beleive there some wording like it has to be comparable with similar makes/models. You will however need to cover the "not for road use" or similar markings.
Plod looking to top-up his pension fund is another issue!

  18. My mot place says "bring the stock pipe, and if we get spot checked, then we say at the point the noise test was done, the stock pipe was on there"....i only take the stock tailpipe....theyre in bristol, without incriminating them...

  19. i failed a car once (subaru impreza) for excessive noise emitted from the exhaust system and owned by a policeman. he was cool about it. he changed it over for the retest and removed it after. all good. just remember when the guys testing you guys could be vosa or any other busybody.

  20. dont spoil the moan...
