Guy Martins luck ... Dunlop's BMW looked like a wild beast .after that yawn fest that was the Candian F1 grand prix. TT now that's a mans sport awesome mental stuff
Just been reading the "it's dangerous out there" thread. The racing is great but at the risk of bringing the mood down I have to say that some of the riding by visitors out here on the IOM is bonkers. I guess we all contribute one way or another just by being here. Our group had a bit of a mishap today. The turn into and out of our campsite is tricky - acute angle on a slope and off camber. A couple of people in other groups have lost balance and footing on entry/exit and dropped it. Three of our lot were waiting to turn right into the campsite. Impatient idiots were passing them on the inside AND the outside, making it all the more nerve wracking. The first chap went for it but didn't see a bike coming down the hill towards him at well over - maybe double - the 30mph limit. The other rider tried to stop but hit our man. Our man has a badly broken arm and leg and needs an op on the arm tomorrow. The other rider and his passenger went flying. Blood coming from the riders arm and the passenger with bad chest injuries coughing up blood was air lifted to hospital. Seems it is touch and go for her poor lass. Our mans bike has been impounded. He'll be for it if they find anything wrong with it - though it is/was an immaculate SP1 so they probably won't. Even so it could be a 50/50 fault judgement as even though the other rider was speeding our man pulled across him. Could be a manslaughter charge if, God forbid, the worst happens. Yesterday a commercial helicopter crashed on the mountain after dropping off two passengers. It was very gusty and it seems he stalled and had his rotors fold up. The helicopter flipped and hit the ground just near the road and a bunch of bikers. We were talking to one of them today who was first on scene and had the gruesome task of covering the pilot's dead body. Shocking. Bit of a sombre mood in the camp tonight.
Bloody hell Dave....... We nearly had something similar turning right into Glen Helen where the car park is. Blooming tosser came up the outside as we were turning, only just avoided a big crash........
Yeah, took us three days to do a full lap last week as people kept binning it up on the mountain. We were in the camper and some of the riding I saw was questionable at best... people going around corners overtaking blind into oncoming traffic on pure trust and hope. I'd assume by the fact that most of these were riding recent (post 2010) bikes that back in the real world they have something to live for, and reasonably responsible ways of going about their day to day... but man, they were riding like they'd been told they couldn't die... It's all fun and games until someone loses an eye, I guess. Still loved it and wished I'd been on my bike... but then again, maybe not.
How cool? I'm a fan of both William and Rutter, they rode well today. Was genuinely very worried for MD and relieved when he limped back out of the ambulance at the grandstand. Gary Johnson off too... it's a rough TT this year one way or another.
Ooh we watched down there last year just past the turning to the farm where they come over a slight rise.....
Yep that's it. The pic above is looking down the road. This is the view looking up it. Currently a two hour delay but it is nice and sunny here so nobody cares too much
Certainly are. Thats the first place we watched and we just kept going 'holy sh1t' after every bike.....
