900ss Fork Oil

  1. I have just got a set of early 900ss showa forks i have just fitted the hyperpro provressiv springs out of my 750 forks what weight oil and air gap is recomended.

  2. In my adjustable Showas is FL10 oil (which I think is Motul)...........I had 7.5 in the Marzocchis.

I'm not sure if you should be using the springs from the 750........

........but anyway, the Showas according to a workshop manual should have 440cc and oil level of 4.25".

  3. Cheers..750 and 900 springs are the same length.

  4. But are they the same weight/loading?

I don't think they are.......check out the Hyperpro website and download the catalogue.........the fork kits for 750SS and 900SS have different reference numbers.

  5. Not sure but i wouldnt think it will be a problem as the bike weight is the same, the steel tube in the 900 is shorter to make up for the adjuster.I only have the fork setup for the 750 from hyperpro, for the 750 the recomended oil is 2.5w!!

  6. I thought the 900 engine was somewhat heavier than the 750.

If you are talking about carbed 750 Marzocchi forks, they are lighter than the Showas; plus they do compression damping on one leg and rebound on the other......not that should affect the springs though.

  7. I wouldnt think a kg or two on the engine would make a diffrance, both forks are the early shawa.

  8. Ah...well.......

I switched out the non-adjustable Marzocchis from my '97 750 for what are probably '93-'94 fully adjustable Showas......

........can't say I noticed much difference despite having a specialist strip, check and rebuild the Showas.

  9. I have a set of marzocchis on from a 600 and they feel awfull, crude and choppy, they dont seem too bad on faster corners but slow corners they feel too harsh.
