Hi all I've no idea if this is the right forum for my question, so I'm trusting you web admin peeps to shunt me across if not  My bike's just been trailered home from an unplanned stay in the Alps with a new 3" crack on the offside fairing under the indicator. The carrier agreed to meet the costs of repair. HOWEVER, it was getting its welcome home wash today and I see they also broke the tank front catch. It's too late to take this up with them and I can't find one online. Do any of you esteemed Ducatisti have any ideas..? Its at Stafford next month as an example of a working bike (its done over 74500 miles) and I'd kind of like it not to look too wrecked! You help gratefully received SueB
Depending how bad it is broken, I might be able to mend the catch......Post some pics of the bits and I'll let you know if I think it can be done. AL
Hi - and thanks for your input. AL: it can't be mended because a large chunk of it is now missing, but many thanks for the kind offer to have a look Gilps: I'll see if the shop in Preston has any and will be very happy if they're still being made / sold. I've had trouble with some parts because of its age. I'll keep you posted
Let me take a guess.......The bits you have got left are the hook on the frame and a bit of the lever on the tank? I'll attempt making a stainless steel one as soon as I get a minute (if it works and looks nice, I might even fit it on mine) although you can get similar things for cars.....'over-centre catches' might do as well as hard but slightly stretch rubber ones.... Just checked back on my history, I mixed two orders up, the tank catch was from http://www.giovannimoto.com/ both avanti (al's link is correct) and giovanni are great suppliers. Sorry for any confusion.
Dear All I am really grateful for your replies - I went on both the Avanti and Giovannimoto websites and a Whole New World of Ducatiparts has opened up before my eyes! I was really tickled by the Italian national anthem on Giovannimoto's Intro page, but am still at a loss as to why the man adjusting whatever it was on the rear wheel of that Ducati wasn't looking at the job in hand. Perhaps it was because the mechanic's assistant had nicked his overalls and was sitting on the machine instead of handing him his tools. Yes, on reflection, I feel sure it must be that. One way or another, I am now certain my Ducati will be the proud owner of a new tank front catch in the very near future Thank you
