Hi All, I know this is a familiar post but bear with me. Bike turns over, can hear fuel pump prime itself, lots of back firing, good spark at plugs although they are iridium which I have been advised to change to standard, plugs have signs of petrol so assume fuel getting into cylinders. Have added some injector cleaner to petrol. New heavy duty sealed battery fitted. Double checked all electrics are where they should be, coils in correct location for each cylinder, fuses all look good, all bolted terminals cleaned and greased. Bike has been in bits for 18 months but engine not stripped down. Just cosmetic work done. All advice thus far is to change the relays??? My bike has a relay fitted to the left near side of the battery next to ECU. Its a Bosch unit. Is this the relay being advised to change? I am told by local dealer there should be 2 relays here side by side, one for fuel pump and one for injectors. Another 'expert' told me that they fitted one relay to earlier models. Can anyone add to this? My Ducati CD parts schedule shows 2 relays and the Haynes manual is not clear for my model. Thanks chaps.
Thanks for the reply. Eventually sorted it. It was the timing sensor gap being too wide. I had to buy a second hand engine side casing for the bike as the original was cracked inside at the shaft bearing circlip groove. The casing I bought had a different timing sensor mounting with only one bolt hole. Original had two. So had to buy new sensor which came with a variety of shims. I took all the shims off in the end and she started next try. Bike is now finished and looking great. The main thing I have learned during the project is that two Ducati's of the same model and year can vary so much in their collective parts.
