Hi all. I'm new to the site, those of you that also hangout at www.kawaskiworld.com will also know me as Mike1000. I ride a 2002 Kawasaki ZX12R and a Yellow 748 Bip Ok, so I've owned my Yellow 1997 Ducati 748 for about a year and a half and its never run quite right. It had a fuel leak when I first got it, then a coolant leak, both have been fixed. I went to take her for a ride last week, upon going to pull away the throttle stuck open and the bike revved pretty hard from cold, I had to hit the kill switch to turn her off. When I started her back up again I know have a knocking sound coming from the crank area. Sounds like metal on metal tapping sound I think I've done some damage but I'm unsure what. My question, what is it mostly likely going to be and is it going to cost me a fortune? Thanks
Strong chance that it is a big end failure if constant higher revs hard from cold. Flywheel and clutch can become loose and cause a rhythmic knocking but unlikely to be brought on by start-up.
My mates 748 used to stick open, it was caused by the air filter breaking up and it got sucked into the venturie... [pse excuse spelling] Ref the knocking; I'd so the screwdriver to the ear trick to try to see were the noise is coming from
Hi mate it happened to me as well, may be worth checking the alternator lock nut they have a habit of coming loose, that sounds a bit like a big end as well, fingers crossed
