Slave

  1. hi ,will a 2002 st4 clutch slave cylinder fit a 1999 900ss ie ?

  2. My research into this issue suggests that there is a difference in push-rod lengths between these two models. I don't know this for certain though.

I have bought aftermarket slave cylinders for my Ducatis and these have all featured a little insert to compensate for a shorter push-rod design that can be used if you have need of it. If you haven't got one of these inserts handy, perhaps you have a mate who lives locally who has an unused one?

I'm not a million miles from Pompey most days and I have one or two of these little trinkets spare, if you are stuck. You might not need it though, it's worth a try I reckon.

  3. I havnt bought one yet just seeing what fits what

  4. In that case ...

Try PMing @antonye on the forum, he sells after-market slave cylinders at very reasonable prices. I've bought one from him for my 2001 750Sie, works a treat. He can advise you what you need.

Alternatively, someone might post on here with the precise answer to your question. Hopefully :)

  5. Thanks I will try him

  6. Yes BUT you need to check how far out of the engine your clutch push rod sits...

Take the slave cylinder off and push the clutch push rod home with your finger. You'll feel it stop against the pressure plate and just make sure it doesn't slide out again when you measure, or hold it in place while you measure.

If it's more than 30mm then you can put the slave cylinder straight on without any problems as you have the longer pushrod used on machines from around 1999/2000 onwards.

If it is less than 30mm then you have the shorter push rod (used upto and including 1999) and you will need an adapter for the later slave cylinder. The adapter needs to be 8mm in diameter and 10mm long. This goes inside the clutch slave and makes up the difference between the short and long push rods. Use a suitable sized spacer (in steel) or a cut down bolt or similar.

Also, you really want the latest slave cylinder with the inset star pattern on it. All previous slaves up to this point had their own problems, so get one of these or buy a suitable aftermarket one that comes with an adapter ;)
