Does anyone know whether you could actually, not just start a bike from this, but run it too, rather than use a mega expensive lightweight lithium battery? Jumping Jack Superlite - Lightweight Portable Jump Starter, USB Charger, Booster | eBay
Does anyone on here actually own one of these devices? And can they say whether it really does what it says in the adverts, or if it's some kind of exaggeration (or scam)?
I met a guy who had one like this and recommended it to me. I can't remember the brand now but it didn't have a distributor in the UK late last year. It was from the US and the only complaints were from people who owned big V8 cars and trucks which it's obviously not going to have the beans for. It worked fine for smaller cars and It looks perfect for motorbikes. I'd be very interested in hearing from someone who has one as if this is available in the UK then I'll be looking to buy it to stash in the toolbag.
I don't know about that one in particular but yes, I have seen a similar unit with my own eyes jumpstart an R1 Yamaha repeatedly and the battery didn't even get warm. This battery was also about the size and weight of a mobile phone and cost £90. The seller maintained that it would be capable of performing reliably for several years and that it didn't suffer from overcharge undercharge problems. The only reason I didn't buy one is because I dismissed it as too good to be true. I'm sure had I been forty years younger I would've bought it on the spot
yip best to check first @Chris i mean, you wouldn't want to buy 47 of em until you where sure.
I don't doubt what you say, but do you own one or have you actually used one personally, then? I'm tempted to get one, but also feel it may be "too good to be true". Is there a catch somewhere?
had demos from traveling tool dudes. personally i would go for one of these. 12v Mini Snap On Jump Starter, 12v Mini Snap On Jump Starter Suppliers and Manufacturers at Alibaba.com
250A start current!!!??? It's witchcraft I tell thee..... Mind, I was sceptical about lightweight lithium batteries til I bought one. They're brilliant. Kinell, if these things work I'm deffo getting one. That's shitloads of poke. I bet you can rig it up into a tazer type weapon. Imagine the fun you could have down the pub with it??
I'm sure somebody on here had a US version of one of these and after much slagging took the plunge and bought one and reported back that it worked a treat. However it was considerably more expensive as I recall. Apart from the whole idea of buying from an unknown supplier whose battery packs MAY or MAY not be questionable. I'd at least check what the power of the pack is and what other rival manufacturers are offering. Then of course its also well known that certain pack manufacturers are known to over egg the battery capacity on the label. I wonder about the longer term reliability of these devices too. Lithium batteries do not like to be stored on a full charge for extended periods, so how long these devices will continue to function is open to question. I wouldn't run a bike without a battery as it can act a dampener/accumulator in the system, running without a battery or a ridiculously small one could well be asking for trouble and the RRs on the bikes are bad enough and don't need much encouragement to go tits up. Denzel if/when he posts will give you the definitive view but right now I'm erring on the side of caution.
i wouldn't. just do it. how often would you use it tho. they have been around for a wee while now. if snapy are doing them, should be fine.
I will, I will so you don't remember those snap on Brake flaring tools from the 80s? They were complete and utter tripe. Canna do without a decent tool extension these days mind, ticularly at my age
I use one of these on a 1198. 12V 50800mAh Portable Car Jump Starter LED Booster Charger Battery Power Bank UK | eBay
