999 Which Discs Are Better? Brembo Std Or These?

Discussion in '749 / 999' started by joelipol, Jun 23, 2015.

  1. I've got the standard Brembo discs on my 749/999 - they are measuring 4.6mm on both sides.

Or I've got these no named versions - much thicker and newer, but I can't see any branding. Does anyone recognise them? Are they any good or are the Brembo's better?

    Thanks for your help.

  2. No idea what those disks are but ive always stuck with brembo as to much shite out there unless its from someone like AP Racing.

    • Thanks Thanks x 1
  3. Watch out that thick (racing) discs will track centrally through the calipers. Because the offset remains the same, the extra width of the disc has to go somewhere, so it goes to the other side of the caliper.

  4. Ok - so you say these are racing discs, does that make them better? (track only use)

If I do use them though make sure they are centred in the caliper - if not, don't use them.

    Thanks again Andy.

  5. On thick discs you have to see that the pads can come back far enough as not to bind on the discs.

Your best bet is to fit them, I understand that you already own them, and see if the discs track centrally though the calipers.

You cannot reduce offset, only increase it with spacers but we would only be talking a couple of mill.

  6. What make are they though.Could be top quality could be absolute shite.Good to find out as its brakes were talking about here.

  7. Personally, I would not use parts of unknown manufacture on a safety critical system. It's not worth the risk if they do not perform....

  8. Looks like they have been well used before and not blown up or turned to dust.

  9. ...or cracked.

  10. Thanks for the advice all. I agree, I don't want to fit crap. My only other data point is that I've used them once as they were on my wets but I thought they felt great - better than the Brembos.

What I might do is fit them and check clearance. Might be mute point beyond that. Thanks again.

  11. If you've used them, they must fit/work ok.

  12. wondering if they might be EBC - any numbers anywhere on the central carrier? they look pretty decent as are 12 bobbin for starters (am guessing you have already checked for play? - fore/aft not side to side)

  13. You are likely to experience quicker brake pad wear due to the petal design. My son has used a very similar set on his full race 748 with carbon pads. It stops very well but the pad wear is a fair bit above stock.

His discs run very close to the maximum without just hitting the calipers so if yours are slightly worn they should be fine even with new pads.

My own preference is for stock discs with a decent caliper setup and maybe an improved radial master cylinder, but each to his own.

  14. Thanks again. I did an image search for Ducati brake discs and found quite a few similar looking discs...
e.g. Front Brake Disc Rotors Aprilia, Benelli, Bimota, BMW, Cagiva, Ducati, Gilera, KTM, Laverda, Morini, Moto Guzzi, MZ, Voxan, Yamaha, Arashi (SINGLE DISC) - Mad Hornets

There is absolutely no branding or markings except what you can see in the above close-up "SHP". I have to conclude these are cheap and not as good as the Brembo's so they are relegated to the spares pile - sticking with the Brembo's. Thanks again for the insights.

  15. the cooling slots are quite aggressive but I wouldn't say they were 'cheap' looking at them and would just try them out if it were me. Only asked about part numbers as EBC sold a batch in the past with just a number, not even EBC and they are as good if not better than Brembo with cast iron dics/fully split/floating mounts.

  16. As its brakes id sell em if unknown quality and put the money to something like these (5 bolt version for yours) if you can find em for sale or some HPK series.

  17. These chaps have a pretty good rep. Might be worth a call/e-mail, especially as they work on other discs, he may recognize them.

  18. Look like EBC, but have no part number, there are a few Chinese discs who are copying EBC at the mo
