Thinking Of Swapping The 748 Bip For A Two Stroke

Discussion in 'Other Bikes' started by wroughtironron, Jun 27, 2015.

  1. Having reached 60, I think I'd be more comfortable with a lighter bike without the high back end that the 748 has (old limbs not what they used to be).

Having proddie raced/hill-climbed the 250lc and 350ypvs, my leanings are towards swapping my 14k miles 748 for one of these. What do you reckon ?

  2. Get an old H1 or H2 yer puffta :D high bars and everything - utopia :)

  3. Not sure the H1 suits my wallet - some of them are up for more than my house is worth, and their looks aren't exactly on the right side of muntah....

  4. It doesn't matter at your age - they're only 45 :D

  5. 350lc or the ypvs lc2, for a more upright comfy position,
Nsr, kr1s, rs250 back to race position an outside bet kh250 or kh400.

  6. I have a 205LC which I have had from new, my son used it for a while before passing his test several years ago. Checking it on a dyno it only put out 29 bhp at the back wheel which is a lot different to a 748. You might want to look at the 350 range and beyond.

Does it have to be a two stroke? as you could go for something like an SV650. Still a V twin but with an upright riding position.

  7. A one owner Lc, Red998 thats bloody rare :upyeah:

Wroughtironron if your ever in Essex let me know as you can have a go on my 350lc and see what you think.

  8. it's the weight in combination with the high back end which is becoming an issue - I have to manoeuvre the 748 backwards up a small ramp to store it, and I'm not confident I won't eventually drop it when climbing on or off.

Thanks Roadtrip - I'm nowhere near Essex but I've had both the 250 lc and the 350ypvs (admittedly 25-30 years ago) and found them comfortable and easy to handle, so their attraction isn't in doubt. I sold my proddie racer 250lc (Beckett tuned) complete with bike trailer for £425 around 1995.

I rode this at Cadwell a couple of years ago, it was my first 2 stroke ride since 1992, loads of fun but nearly back ended more than a few people going into corners because I was so used to riding my Dukes with their engine braking. Need to be careful 'til you've adjusted to the difference.

  10. £425 wouldn't even get you an engine now,
Is that your bike in your new photo,

  11. Yes, that's my 748 - might be a bit lighter if I removed the stickers :upyeah:

  12. Lightweight 2 stroke? Because you wont be interested in howling about on clip-ons, something more sedate might appeal... I know someone who has one of these. Super rare and a Ducati! The fan-cooled 100cc Ducati Cadet; the crank-mounted fan draws air into the shrouds and cools the 2 stroke engine

  13. Somehow, (although that Cadet undoubtedly has it's appeal) I think Id like a bit more "oomph" ;)

  14. Oh, I think that Cadet is fully capable of 0mph :D

  17. Yes, I still have the bill of sale (£999) instruction manual, original toolkit and original pressed alloy number plate. Did everything on the bike including production racing both short and long distance, commuting for several years etc. etc.

Still have all the original bodywork\tank as I replaced it as soon as I got it to go proddie racing. Now completely stock but not been used for a few years now.

  18. I reckon the OP should get a Garelli or and Itom, if he wants quick but light.............

.......failing that, an NSU Quickly might fit the bill..........
