Heard today that you need to be aware when filling up in London, May also be other large cities, anyhow you fill up, go to pay only to see ya pride and joy being pushed up road by a scum bag and his mate pushing it via his moped!!!! Make sure you put your steering lock on while you go to pay, it takes seconds to happen
It's the latest thing, one pushing the other by his foot on your rear peg. I never put the steering lock on when paying for fuel, and am always riding into London.
There was a thread on here a few months ago where someone was having problems with their insurer because they hadn't put the steering lock on while the bike was at the pump and they'd gone in to pay - I forget whether it was because the bike was within the small radius of home and their policy had a garaging clause or whether it was because the insurer argued they'd not properly secured it. Much as I begrudge doing so, these days I put the steering lock on when I go into pay at a filling station. Of course it won't prevent anyone nicking the bike, but it's more for the arse-coverage to give the insurers less wriggle-room in the event the bike does get nicked. (The only filling stations reasonably close to me that have pay at the pump are Tescos (huge queues) and an Esso whose forecourt is always awash with diesel).
Having already had a bike stolen, I feel like putting a block of C4 under the battery. At least it'd be me laughing as the ride off, pushing my bike with their scooter as I get my phone out of my pocket [emoji48][emoji91]
Police don't seen to take motorcycle thefts seriously in my view, quite a few have gone near to me and a guy at J&S had his stolen in his drive, Sod's law MCE said as it wasn't in the garage, as per his policy, he had to pay double excess, It's horrid having something that you love, and having to worry about every noise you hear at night, thinking is it the scumbags trying the garage door. And don't get me going on garage theft, or theft non dwelling as the fuzz call it, ie "it's not ya house so stop fuckin moaning, the insurance will cover it" Rant over
I agree, there was a spate of thefts around my area and shortly after mine was stolen I reported a dodgy van. The missus was driving and I was passenger, a white van forced us off the road and forced 2 other cars to stop. He was seriously shifting and fully prepared to ram other vehicles. I got the Reg and called the police, they turned up over an hour later and said "we've seen no sign of the vehicle". No shit, I said it was travelling at speed, not parked up reading the paper. Wish I had been driving, I'd have stopped the car so he couldn't pass. I bet it had bikes in the back.
It's a business for these people. They just drive around in transits looking for prey then back to Luton or wherever. Left my bike at a supermarket once and came back to it with guys about to load it on their van like it was a flipping legit job.
I just wish that London would install ground anchors in their bike bays. I've seen them installed at a small percentage of bays but the anchors themselves look prohibitively expensive. Maybe a petition on here for us Londoners. I'd install my own at my regular work bay but they would deem it unauthorised and pay some guy more than the cost of installing one of their approved ones, to come and remove mine.
In these austere times, the police have far more serious crimes to deal with. Like going after people who say the wrong thing on Twitter and apologising to the parents of terrorists.
I hate theft of any sort as it shows massive disrespect. In modern society there is little excuse for it. I think we should look at the Saudi model on this.

I don't think I'd even put theirs in, they look like they cost a good few hundred each. Typical council/gov't, everything massively overpriced because the project to supply the council ground anchors probably went to a fellow Golf club member who put half in his back pocket. I don't think there are any cameras down the road I park in. I just need a good cordless drill and I'll put one in at night. I'll just wear a high vis so people think I'm council.
There's seemingly a bit of a problem in Edinburgh at the moment. Police Scotland have warned via social media for months about a spate of bike thefts in Edinburgh & surrounds including a series of audacious attempts at the roadside etc. Police Scotland believe visiting European gangs are stealing en-Masse. This morning, this pops up in the news. With the police adopting a policy of refusing to give chase it's little wonder the thieves are so brazen I guess. That is in São Paulo Brazil. This video is a chase in Sao Paulo / Brazil . They had just stolen the bike. We have many problems here in Brazil, including policemen who prefer to stay chatting than chaise thieves, but some knows how to do their job.
As a rule I don't generally go that far on my bikes from day to day but this is a new one on me, and good to know....luckily my garage door is about 5m from where my head is while I sleep, and with a family of 3 kids I tend to wake up at the drop of a pin. Rear access is totally impossible. The only one thing I can say is that whenever I go to fill up the car I always take 4 plastic cans with me and fill them up, that way the bikes don't tend to go near a petrol station as I fill up at home...
I have my tracker but hear mixed reviews. Some say they are expensive and easily blocked from signal and others swear by them and have had bikes recovered super fast. When I had my bikes recovered to the dealer, I forgot to turn it on recovery mode. 4-5 mins later I get a call asking if I know where my bike is. Seemed like a good service to me.
