  1. Anyone here got a tablet or an ipad?

I've never used one, but I'm told they are good for surfing the net, watching catch up TV, emails etc.

I just need it for home use, any suggestions which are the best to purchase, got about £400 to spend?

  2. We use an iPad, in fact that's what I'm using now! Can't vouch for the catch up tv but for everything else it's brilliant

  3. I've got a generic Android pad, an achos 9 widows 7 tablet and an IPad.

Windows 7 is too bloated for the tablet to run quickly or smoothly, the android one is way better.

I'm typing this on an iPad, they are brilliant for checking and sending email, eBay etc and general web browsing.

Oh and I use Eurosport player all the time when I'm away from home to watch the bike racing, you can get an annual subscription or just pay for the month you want it for, which is what I do.

I've stared to use the iPad more than the Android tab again now tho, so I'd go IPad.

But the Apple bashers will be along soon.....then Lucazade will be here to tell you how good windows 8 is.

  5. Kindle Fire HD?

  6. I have an iPad and I'm using it now whilst laying on the sofa and watching Corrie

I use it for work too when I'm away. Saves me lugging a laptop around.

Was a bit more than £400 I'm afraid.

  7. You could just buy a 16g iPad 2....they're only about £300 now.

  8. Thanks chaps,

Sounds ideal for what I'm wanting.

On what you've said it probably looks like it might have to an iPad 2 16g Wi-fi. £329 from Currys according to their website, perfect

  9. Ipad all the way and the tv thing is great

Doesnt replace a laptop/pcmtho for stuff like photo manipulation...altho basic editing of pics and vedeo is good enough

  10. That is where this comes in, both Laptop and tablet. Sorry Anth. October 28th is the date.

Took a few minutes to pull together as a test...really not hat long and you can do loads. And for a couple of quid for the app, great value!

  12. I've got iPhone, Mac, iPad

The iPad (boss gave me his old one when he upgraded to a 3) frankly, I could really live without. It's like a monster iPhone you can't phone on, or sort of mini Mac that's a bore to type on.

But I think that's just me. Next machine will be a MacBook Air - a full-on Mac that weighs nothing, like an iPad. Best of both worlds. Still think the iPhone is a fab bit of kit.

  13. iPad 3 user here. Couldn't be without it.

Ill also be having the iPad mini when it arrives as long as its sub £200 as promised. Otherwise the nexus 7 is brilliant at £160

  14. Agreed, I have iPhone, iPad & PC. Phone's great, PC's indispensable but find the iPad to be neither one or the other; OK for casual browsing or playing iPhone games on a bigger screen but too big to be properly portable and too limited for proper use.

After a recent trip to Paris, I couldn't get over the amount of people walking round art museums using an iPad as a camera - after years of searching for smaller gadgets it seemed a backwards step to me.

To quote an ex boss from many years ago it's "neither arseholes nor watercress"....

  15. Not sure how he arrived at that expression, but I like it!

  16. I've got an HTC Flyer. It's a 7" tablet running Android 3 (Honeycomb). It was originally a £500 device but can now be bought for about £200. I use it mainly in the evenings as an ebook reader, forum and web browsing, catching up on the news and watching the occasional bit of catch-up TV on. I think 7" is the right size for a tablet. I've played with an iPad and thought it was ok, but just too big. I still use a laptop for any serious work but find the tablet to be really useful when I want something light and portable.

The Nexus 7 is getting rave reviews at the moment and at £160 is a bargain.

The Samsung Note 2 is an interesting phone as it lies somewhere between a phone and a small tablet. Not sure if I would want to lug one around, and I think most of the marketing is aimed at women who I think it would be ideal for as it would fit in a handbag nicely. Perhaps the future lies in medium sized tabs doubling up as smart phones.

  17. Is the iPad3 worth the extra cost or would an iPad2 be just as good for surfing the net, emails & catch up TV?

  18. Yes, iPad 2 did all that and is still more then capable. Apparently iPad 3 has much better screen, it has also faster cpu nut unless you play games doubt you would notice that. Anth anything to add there?

  19. It has a better camera too.
But the screen is worth the extra and the faster CPU will mean it will last longer.

  20. I'm still learning to use an etcha sketch!
