1200 Which Oil Do You Use

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by michel couque, Jul 7, 2015.

  1. Hi all.

Asking the higher mileage MTS riders which engine you use,and why? Also what is your normal consumption per 1000 miles?

  2. I use the testastretta 11 engine coz thats what came in the bike ;) but i put motul 300V in it, mainly because im a sheep and thats what people keep telling me to use, done about 4k miles with it and the oil level hasnt moved

  3. I put in what is recommended, and it does not burn oil

  4. Mine has used no oil whatsoever between services.

  5. I stuck Halfords fully synth 4 stroke oil in and it hasn't burned a drop.
Is the 300v not a racing oil?
I read somewhere that racing oil is great for racing but only for racing. It doesn't have the additives in it that road bike oils have for cleaning, longevity, anti corrosion, etc, etc.

  6. I'm on 13k not high I know. I use shell advanced ultra 4. Never had to top up yet.

Because I live in London parking can be a real squeeze; I bend over backwards for a space.

  8. I feel your pain in London. I live in London, but will not park in a bike only area , need a can opener to get out again.

  9. Dunno, whatever the dealer puts in? Not added any between services - up to around 25k miles now.

  10. Silkolene Pro 4 15-50.
I know Ducati have 'ONLY USE SHELL' stickers, but Silkolene was in the MonsterMob Dukes so it's all a much of a muchness!

  11. I use the recommended Shell oil - the DVT used 250ml up to the 1st service at 750 miles. Now on 3,000 miles and it hasn't used any more oil from the oil change at all. Previous Mutleys also used no oil - UNLESS - they went on track and then they did use a little bit but is was a hard days for the motor.

  12. Vee twin how much oil might have you used on track, and what would a track day mileage be, 60 miles?

  13. The days I have done are normally about 60-70 miles and the 2013 MTS used between 100 and 150ml each time. I think most is out of the breather as revs are high all day. As soon as you are back on the road it didn't use any oil.

  14. apparently (according to my supplier)the racers up north use milers 10/40 fully synthetic, the fella in question uses it on his own bikes. trust me he dont scrimp. bit colder up here hence the 10/40 over the 15-40/50. just ordered a gallon but he wouldn't tell me the price. seemingly i will be impressed.

  15. Interesting,I ask because my 2012/13 MTS is now using oil. Upto say 10,000 miles it never used a drop, now I would say 300ml per 1000 miles, but I do keep the revs high, rarely below 5000 rpm unless in a 20 per 30 zone, and often upto redline. No smoke to be seen, and no leaks ,so might be rev related ,according to Ducati it's well within tolerance.

  16. Many would say the 10/40 is better anyway, as it's still way too thick when cold and no thinner than 15/40 when hot

  19. I did read somewhere a suggestion that 4 stroke m/c oil may not necessarily be the best thing for our bikes, as it is largely formulated for wet clutch engines, so it lacks friction reducing additives which might well be of benefit.
