For nothing but weekend and evening fun with VERY occasional commute on A and B roads + small amount of town work. Which is better bike for 6'2" 80kg middle aged (41) bloke?
Well, there you go....hyper 1100 it is then, I would say though, full system air filters, and a trip to cjs to top it off....
I have had a 1098 SF , sf better for the bigger more flowing roads obviously more power but my 1100 hyper sp is so much fun , wheelies everywhere and great suspension for back lanes , it's a personal thing though .... different strokes for different blokes an all that
Well, if your looking for something a bit special youll have to a. find some money now and b. speak to Brass Flute....he traded in his sp for a multi - but, after seeing it in the flesh its probably the best hyper ive ever seen as it was tastefully modded plus it had the cycleworks long range tank, ecu was done by CJs and it was totally immaculate....so youll have to ask him whose got it now then once you do, get in the car, go to the bank, get on the phone, buy it, and then go and get it.
Test rides are required here. Those who know and love SFs will recommend SF and those who know and love Hypers will recommend a Hyper. If you haven't experienced either you need to try before you buy and decide for yourself. The SF will be faster. The 1098 SF is purely and simply a naked sportsbike. The Hyper is Ducati's take on a supermoto so its all about punch and agility at lower speeds. All the usual pros and cons apply in each case. A SF, to me with my body shape at least, is the more comfortable. But then a good hyper will be cheaper than a good 1098 SF and with a simpler engine its cheaper to service. If its a second bike and purely a back road toy then probably practicalities are less important. So the question of which you would prefer comes down purely to personal taste. Either will do the job of back road blatter admirably so if your money's not burning a hole in your pocket just yet, get out and take some test rides.
I'd agree with gimlet initially but your remit is more of a low end remit...as gimlet said his is a superbike with straight bars whereas the hypers stomping ground is up to a ton....now I've only had the hyper but Lee would be the best to comment I would say....also I believe youve got a panigale so based on that I'd say hyper...
For nothing but weekend and evening fun, the Streetfighter every time ! I have both and use the hyper for commuting, crap weather riding etc
True, 1098 models are hard to find, I can't imagine selling mine, it's the maddest bike I ever owned !
Yep - I think when I was looking a few months back I should have probably accepted I was going to have to pay more one (than I was expecting or wanted)! As much as I like my rsv4 ive now owned it for 3 years (and its been great) but, I do prefer the sit up style of riding (the rsv4 has been the only bike ive ever owned with faring) - however if it doesn't sell at the price I want then ill happily keep it as ive got my zed which hasten to add has just come back from CJS and I got to open it up this morning....I think I can say its the quickest accelerating thing ive ever been on...if the rsv sells then ive got a 1098 lined up....not an s but that's the way it goes...
Now I've had my SF tuned I'm glad I didn't buy an S. It is much, much punchier now, low down and in the midrange. It is extremely wheelie happy in the first three gears (drag race launches are almost impossible) and will wheelie off the throttle in 4th at triple figure speeds. At 120mph in 6th it pulls so hard the front wheel floats off the slightest crest. I wonder weather the TC which was good in its day but is scarcely cutting edge now, wouldn't be a liability. Can you turn the TC off on the S? I don't know. I do know I don't miss electronic intervention and I'm glad I haven't got that extra complication. If there's much of a price difference between the S and the standard, then from my experience I think your money is better spent buying a standard model and using the cash saved for remapping and suspension servicing.
