Hyper V Sf Which Is Better

  1. While I agree with the tc part I wouldn't bother servicing the stock suspension...either change the fork internals and upgrade the rear shock.....The difference between the s and stock isn't that much....

  2. No, I bet there isn't much difference between S and stock suspension. The production Ohlins fitted to new bikes isn't the same thing at all as the aftermarket gear you buy direct from the factory.
I've been debating what to do with mine. The fork bushes are pretty slack and the 15000 mile service is coming up. Rich Lewellyn will be doing the service. Do I get a fork overhaul which is relatively inexpensive and see if that's sufficient for my road riding or save up and have an Ohlins or K-Tech revalve? I hesitate because the revalve, looking at it again is dearer than I thought. The local suspension specialist I would be using is quoting £1000 for the fork internals kit. It'll be nearly the same again for a K-Tech or Nitron shock. I had in my memory a total figure for both ends of about £1500. Perhaps I'd miscalculated.
If Rich's for overhaul is less than £200 I reckon I might tack it onto the service and see how that goes and maybe just get the rear shock this year.

  3. Yep. I'd say rear shock first....same as what I'm doing with the zed....Full race Nitron for the rear of mine....They look like a work of art in the flesh. ....absolutely beautiful...mines already got 636 forks on the front so they should be fine....

  4. What about a second hand set of ohlins?

  5. @Cream_Revenge, for what it is worth, if your 996 is the bike you enjoy riding fast, why a 1098cc SF/Hyper ? I had an absolute hoot on the 848SF and didn't feel it was under powered one horse power but then I wasn't looking to hoon around at sub light speed, sub sonic was just what I was looking for and enjoyed it more for that fact. Andy

  6. Agreed but with the 1098 you get big torque which I must confess is what I like...A couple of years ago (just before owning the hyper I had) long story but I got forced into owning an r6 and it was the last il4 600 ill ever own, gutless, whiny, and had to rev the tits out of it for it to go anywhere....plus it was monumentally uncomfortable 30 mins on it before I was in pain...sounded like the pistons where going to pop out the top at 60.....It was categorically the worst bike I've ever owned.

  7. The only problem is that you can't get a good enough feel for the bikes in such a short time, had an 899 6mths before realising I shouldnt have traded my 848 evo in.
My current garage consists of an 1199s full system and full dyno map
848 Evo full system and dyno map
848 SF arrow cans and a DP map
Have used the SF more as it is so easy to chuck about it is loads of fun, my only wish is it had just that little bit more grunt maybe an extra 5ft/lbs of torque but that is because I am spoilt with the power of the 1199 up untill I bought that I was more than happy with my SF

  8. You'll get no arguement from me on that score but sadly my discipline is not the best although I'm better than when I was younger, but there is something reassuring about a bike that is unlikely to get you into serious trouble but still delivers great fun if on a slightly lesser level. Hey, it might just be that I got old but then again with a 748 RS engine in the track bike and 2 factory 748RS engines sitting in the utility room waiting to be built into an 853, perhaps not too old just yet :). Andy

  9. Bit of a minefield unless you can trust the seller. There's Ohlins and there's Ohlins. Without experience its difficult to be sure you're getting what is advertised. And they will still need overhauling.
I think I'll have Rich's fork service (knowing Rich it'll be more than a mere fluid change. I expect there'll be some Louigi magic tweaking..) and get the rear shock upgraded. £700 if I can have Nitron with a red or yellow spring. Otherwise its K-Tech at £900. Still cheaper than Ohlins though and I'm damn sure I'll never be good enough to tell the difference..

  10. Yes. Can't help thinking that if you get a 1098 SF within 6 months you'll be selling a kidney/child to trade the 996 up for an 1198 or a Panigale..
There may be marriage implications here...:Angelic:

  11. Hey when I first got to try out my panigale after 600 mile service I thought WTF have I done as it is mental but 6mths down the road I do love it but I love my evo and my SF just as much :)

  12. Thinking the Hyper going to make for a more balanced garage. Thanks guys.

  13. I just changed from the 848 to the 848 street fighter. I rode a hyper years ago and lived that too so would have been happy with that aswell....
