Are Multistrada owners a whining lot?

  1. Please don't take offence anyone but look at this section of the forum and a high percentage of the threads are about moans and niggles about the bike. I was seriously looking at buying one...but this section is making me wonder if its a good idea.

More posts like Kope's tour of Scotland please and how good the bike is to ride.

  2. Yes they are!

In perspective if you look at the stats there are nearly double the threads / posts than the Superbike forum and the other forums after that are way way down on numbers. I think its a numbers game and also one of the newest bikes in the range sold in quantities so therfore more niggles etc.

There are plenty posts in there saying how great a bike it is (there isnt anything that can match it IMHO) but we tend to remember the negative posts instead.

  3. I was in your position a few months back. I PM'd a few people who were posting about things that were not faults with the bike and they would reply saying their bike had not missed a beat so not every owner has problems. I think you can get a bad impression from the forums as people who are having problems will post their complaints but the posts from owners who do not have problems just do not have the same prominence.

I have had my MS 2 weeks and only done 500 miles. I did have false neutrals and poor back brake for the first few days but the false neutrals seem to have cleared up and the back brake now seems OK, or maybe I have adjusted, not sure, too early to say really.

Having said that, I got the extended warranty, I did not hesitate for a second, I have never bought an extended warranty for anything before, ever.

Also, now that Audi have bought Ducati, I think the quality will only improve.

  4. It's cos they're cratchety old giffers who can't bend enough to fit on a sportsbike, Butch:wink:

When I get old I want to be a miserable bugger too:upyeah:

  6. Yes owners including myself have used the forum to have a moan when things go wrong think it makes you feel a bit better when you know it's not just you with the problem. Saying that I think the bike press hyped the machine so much some people went into their purchase with unrealistic expectations about the machine, many with the Multistrada being their first ever Ducati.
The bike is electronically advanced and it is enevitable that there would be some issues with a new model. I can forgive some of the minor issues, the way this bike rides and looks are just fantastic and for me more than make up for the niggles so far.

Did just extend the warranty though........:upyeah:

  7. I do post positive things about the bike.... Hairpin Heavan

  8. I love whinging, about the weather, the economy, etc.

The only whinge about the Multistrada is that the electrics can't predict the winning lottery numbers so I can give up work.

  9. They seem to be wingers some what more then usual Ducati user. Two examples why so much winging at back brake, unless you use it to back the rear end in to a corner there is hardly any use for it. Come on except multi riders who here uses rear brake so much to bitch about it? My rear brake pads are 8y old!!!

Another example is the fade neutral "issue" in most of the cases it is user not bike. Gear changes on Ducati's are just not the same as on inline fours full stop. You have to be ham fisted/firm about them. Just change it like you mean it. As an example last week I kept on changing down on my mates cbf 1000 as I kept resting my leg on lever. Same pressure as on my bike here activated down shift. For me fault with gear box for him no that is how it should be. That is how Ducati designs them and rightly so when you are making progress you always know which gear you are in and if the gear went in. That is how much feedback gear change gives you on Duc which is not the same with jap bikes.

  10. You'll probably find they have something to whinge about every bike they own. God knows there were enough of them when I had my GSA - I left hoping to get away from them and the buggers followed me!

  11. If you think it's bad on here, try looking at GS forums. All the bad stuff on there and it's a miracle BMW sell any!

I have had 2 1150gs's a standard 1200 and an GS Adventure(sold to a guy from Portugal before I bought the MTS).
Never had any issues with any and my Ducati...fate being tempted here..!! Has been faultless.
It' an absolutely fabulous motorcycle far superior for my needs than the GS.

I think if you based buying bikes on bad stuff posted on forums you be on shanks' pony.
Try just reading the good stuff! Or do what I did and test ride it 4-5 times! After first go you'll be hooked.

  12. I think they expect it to be a GS? Want all the Italian panache without any of the "oh this has fell off/burnt out/stopped working/rusted solid/broken" etc...

I feel they may be delusional. :upyeah:

  13. If you had bought one of the early one's you would have seen some of the problems that were found (steering lock/back brake/battery flat/handlebar switches/hands free) are some of the issues that were published and resulted in Ducati issuing recalls. The threads that have been running are potentially useful information for people that encounter problems and should not be used as a distraction from what is a great bike I've covered over 15k (tempting fate) and not had any problems when on the road. I have taken the extended warranty due to the cost of some of the replacement items and next year will probably buy a new 13 model. Still smiling:biggrin:

  14. I was just a bit taken aback by how many issues there seem to have been on here of late.

I need to get another test ride on a Multi, i loved the one i had and i want a bike that's fun on a Sunday ride but also easier on a trip away for a few days than my S3 is.

But i'm also looking at a KTM SMT and awaiting to see what the new Ducati Hyper/Multi 848 hybrid will be like.

I'm guessing that's the surprise new Ducati MCN will be revealing next week.

  15. The funny thing is, the MTS has never let me down or failed to get me to where I needed to be. The GSA did, twice, and both times it was a known and exceptionally common problem that BMW were trying to ignore.

As far as I saw it, the issue wasn't with reporting problems (because if you talk to people, often someone will come up with a solution), it was the vitriolic tantrums that accompanied them from some people, that were repeated to anyone who would listen (and those that wouldn't were going to get nagged with it anyway). You'd think the bike had compromised the honour of their virgin daughter and given their wife a terminal disease the way they raved on.

  16. I think you have to take it with a pinch of salt, most people come on the forums to whinge and to ask if anyone had similar issues. Not very often you come on to say anyone else had a brillant ride today... COs most people do.
Mine's had a few recalls and a few bits go wrong but still doesn't take the gloss off the bike. They have been seen to promptly without any issues. My bike still looks brand new besides been rode in all weathers (yeh I do clean it very occasionally).

I would say next couple of years will step up in quality but I wouldn't let that put me off the bike. Its far superior (for road use) to any 1200GS ADV.

Oh yeh had a 950 adv, 950 SM and 990 SMT. If you want build quality issues and problems get one of those.... They are worse than Ducati without a doubt.... I think my favourite problem was overtaking a car at 70 and the throttle cable snapped - brown trouser moment. Not bad on a bike with 1000 miles on the clock!!

  17. A mate of mine has one of the earlier Multistradas.........has had one or two niggles and some bl**dy big bills for repairs etc......has now been told he needs a new clutch; then the bike packed up in the dark....faulty throttle position sensor needs replacing, but he thinks it won't stop there......

....so he has finally had enough and is looking at makes other than Ducati....

    AL.

  18. Yes, there are many whingers about the Mutley.

    I'm not one of them.

I'd agree that there are many who seem to delight in moaning - if you don't like what you've got, get rid.

    Simples.

  19. oh yeh if i had the choice again - i wouldn't go for the 1200s. I would just go for the abs model... The electronic suspension is nice and all that but I only ride one up and I think its a luxury (and possible technical nightmare) that I could probably do without... Save the couple of grand difference and spend on carbon bits, exhaust, etc.

  20. The Multistrada is epic when it's working properly, heart-breaking when it's in the shop. If you've ever had another bike that you've really loved, it can be a very fine line as to whether you made the right decision to trade it in. Though once I've got it back, I suspect I'll be thinking I've made the right decision again.
